View Full Version : IAJ Business Cards

I was thinking it would be great to produce some IAJ business cards. Something to stick on windshields of jeeps we see in parking lots, or those we meet with Jeeps. I could design something on MS Publisher and everyone could comment on what to include on it. Mainly something like the site name (itsajeep.org), logo, a slogan such as "All Jeepers welcome" and a sub slogan such as "Meet great folks, get tech advice, and meet new friends to wheel with".

Just an idea. Could even write your name, phone number, e-mail addy, etc. on the back. The cost would be cheap and I could produce them for just the costs involved.

Tom, last year we talked about this, but that was ALL we did. I really like the idea, and everything you are thinking about to put on the cards sounds good to me.:)

If everyone is OK with it, I will create a mock-up and post it for everyone to comment on.

Here is a mock-up so far. The pics are not great, but since most will not have MS Publisher, I had to take a digital cam pic.

I am thinking black and white would be best, be less expensive, and easy to print on a laser printer. We could go colors, but then we get into a nicer look with more expense. B & W will serve the same purpose which is to recruit new members.

Tom, B & W is good. Also, like Danny suggested, I think something about how everything with IAJ is free should be on there., I.E. no dues, fees or the like.

belltom
11-11-2006, 01:19 PM
Cool. I will add a bit about no fees, dues, etc. Then put them into production. Give me this week to get it done, as I am not feeling well this weekend (Flu I think). I will get some card stock then take some orders. Again, just need to cover the costs of materials and postage.

belltom
11-11-2006, 04:15 PM
OK, here is the final draft. Notice the addition of the lower left box indicating no fees or dues. If several folks indicate we are good to go, I will proceed to get them printed.

I guess we will call these contact cards instead of business cards.

Yea Tom they look good. I used to belong to a motorcycle club that had a similar thing going. They would also make it a point to stop and help out any stranded motorists etc and hand out the cards to try to boost their community acceptance and change the general "feel" toward Harley riders by the general public. Don't know that it helped but it was a good gesture.

Some may not want to give out their phone numbers. You could always write it on the back.

Here is an idea I will throw out for discussion before I order the cards. I suggest something like 50 cards for $5.00. That would cover printing costs and mail costs to get them to you ( I only have a rough quote so far, so this is an estimate). This would provide a few dollars to be donated to IAJ site upkeep. Seems it would be a good idea to have a small reserve fund available to repair hardware costs on the server, upgrade software, etc. We all get the benefit of promoting the site with a useful tool while helping support the site at the same time. I want to say too that there is no profit involved for me.

If the majority thinks this is not a good idea, I will be more than happy to charge just the costs involved (about a difference of $3.00). Thoughts?

Well said folks! While I have not seen posts from a lot, so far it seems those who have chimed in are OK with paying 3 bucks over costs to help support the site ($5.00 total for 50 cards). I will continue to monitor this thread to see how others feel. Remember this is a not-for-profit site. Just trying to help ensure we are here for a long, long, long time :)

Vista Print.com will print for nearly 'free' (minus shipping) if they can print their website on the back.
www.vistaprint.com
They print their name/site VERY small (barely readable) on the back along the bottom. Plenty of room to wrie on back if needed. (Or at least that's how they used to do it) I have ordered several times from them.

They ship very fast as well.

Tom, minor nit. Keep the font across the areas consistent. Looks too busy with the mix of serif and sans serif fonts.

Cards are really nice and I'd keep some in my cars when I'm out and about, ready to put on a Jeep's windshield.

But one thing to keep in mind is this: when you come out to your vehicle and find stuff placed under the windshield wiper, what is your first reaction? Mine is to stuff it in the trash. I don't know how everybody else plans to do it, but I'd fill my user name in and have that ready, but only give it to people in person. It doesn't appear as random, and it is a personal touch to give it to somebody directly - with the best chance of that person actually joining up and/or checking the site out.

That is the company I got a quote from. I was not sure of how big their logo was. The free offer is only for 250 and my understanding is we can not submit our own camera-ready card, but I will check again.

Hmmm, I used the same font style throughout the card, with the exception of the logo, which was copied from the shirt design. Some of the text is bold which may have made a difference. I will examine it again. Thanks!

Hello friend and the lower right paragraph are in serif'd fonts. To keep the look consistent with the logo, I'd go with all sans serif, like the IAJ logo. Looks great and like what it says. VERY non-threatening.

I guess for some reason it is not cost effective to print our own cards? I haven't ordered any cards for my business for 15 years. Just print out a few dozen at a time and that way if you want to make changes after a while you don't waste a lot of cards. Granted real professional cards have a slightly nicer "feel" to them but all the information conveyed is the same and isn't that the real purpose? Just a random thought, do what you want.

They will be black ink on a white card.

You can send payment in the amount of $5 per 50 cards as follows:

OK folks. The cards will go out in the mail within a day or two. These cards are GREAT! The type is a bit small, but it gets the message across. We have 2,000 of these so we need more folks to order. So far we have 6 more orders of 50 cards for $5.00 to cover our costs. Any orders from there on will have the $$ after postage go to the IAJ reserve fund to help with any expenses from the site. While it will take time to build up much to make a difference, this will help out. Thanks to all those who have ordered!

Not at all Fred. As discussed in previous posts, the money will be sent to Bob who now manages the site. There is no movement to make this more like a club. If that were the case, we would be asking for dues or a fee to join the site. That will never happen, as Gill meant for this site to be free to all.

OK folks. The cards ordered so far will go out Tuesday. Sorry for the delay, but we have been swamped here with life. Thanks again for all who ordered cards. For those who are wanting to order cards (these are business cards - we call them contact cards), they are $5.00 for 50 cards. The cards are pictured in earlier posts in this thread. The idea is they are a tool to promote the site. Over $3.00 goes to support the site in a reserve fund for costs involved in operating the site.

Some folks have ordered a few cards and sent additional money. Rest assured that the extra $$$ will go directly to the reserve fund.

Thanks so much for your card orders!

The idea of a fund is to give Bob the means to get us back up and going right away in case of a server crash. If folks don't want the fund, we can wait until we are out of business, and then try to somehow organize a fund drive without being able to use this site to communicate with one another.

We don't have good old Giller around any more to dig into his own pockets for things we need around here. My idea of establishing an emergency fund was just for the sake of keeping the downtime to a minimum in case of a crash, but it really could mean the survival of ItsaJeep, since I don't have much faith in any organized fund raising effort with the site down being very successful. How would we coordinate such an emergency fund raising effort with the site down?

We can just take our chances that nothing unforeseen will happen to shut us down, if that's what everyone wants to do. Just seems risky to me.

Tom

Fred

No I like the Idea of a fund but it's just a metter of who maintains this $$ and on top of these little fund raiseres we need to re-initiate the Donations link. Set up a paypal account for ITSAJEEP where we can make donations. I know it wan't much but I for one donated $20 a year to Gill. I didn't wait for him to ask for $$ and I did not wait for site failure. I know ALOT of folks here donated to Gill to help with expenses and that worked out well.

We are NOT a jeep club, we are a bunch of jeepers who meet on a regular basis, have a "treasurer" the guy who maintains our site, we have semi regular meet and greets, we have buisness cards to promote membership, we have items in place to act as fund raisers.........well like I said we are NOT a jeep club....LOL

BUMP - We handed out several IAJ cards to folks at the Toys For Tots ride in Sprugeon, IN this weekend. Read earlier in this thread if you are interested in ordering some.

Great tool to promote the site, and part of the proceeds go to further this site.

I handed out a few cards as well. We probably should have stationed Denise at the check in point to pass out IAJ cards (LOL).

A club means you HAVE to pay dues. We pay money on a completely 100% volunteer basis and that is ONLY to keep this site up or to get stuff that helps promote this site, whether they are shirts or cards.

The prices we pay to help make sure this site stays viable are well worth it. I've made lots of friends, learned a lot, and had the opportunity to do something enjoyable. To me the small prices I've paid for donations, shirts, and cards, is well worth it to be able to stay in quick and easy contact with my friends and Jeep family.

As for who maintains the funds, I think BOFH or tsjay would be the best ones to keep control of any account that might get set up.

OH come on people...We all know Fred is nutz and Laurie was just tying to push his buttons. We are not a club we are a group that either likes or dislikes each other but we all love to wheel together. Man are we a family or what!!!!

Paul E
12-11-2006, 08:49 AM
Group best describes it. :)

It's funny when we wheel. People will ask us about it being an 'organized run' and what club we are. The look on their face when they are told it is just a group of folks who hang out on a website and decide to go wheeling - rather amusing. heheh

"Ya mean I don't have to pay dues to hang out witcha? Daaang!"

OK, time to get this thread back on topic, though it was not that far off, as being a part of this website truly is all about just making friends, offering advice, searching for advice, not having a formal "Club", etc. All of this is why itsajeep is so successful IMO.

Let us save this thread for those interested in getting IAJ cards so folks do not have to look so hard for order info.

I do think that starting a new thread on "Why is IAJ so special" is a super idea.

Thanks,

Tom Bell

This is an old thread, but worthy of bumping for the new folks. These are what we call "Contact Cards", like a business card, and a way to promote this site to folks you run into. Have you ever met someone in a parking lot or a gas station, or even a Jeep event, and wished you had a tool to promote the IAJ site? Well, this is the tool you have been looking for. A part of the proceeds goes to support the site. The cost is $5.00 for 50 cards. Just PM me if you want to order some!

If i get some card for Bluegrass 4x4s would you mind?

I will be attending the Jeep Jambo next Oct (Gateway to the Cumberlands) and I should have a vendor stand set up. Whatever cards I have left I will give out but if someone wants more given out get them together and "donate" them to the site and I will give them away. We have a HUGE possibility of getting our name out. Our Clarksville Jeep Club (Locked and Loaded will most definatly have cards and flyers readily available for hand out and hopefully we can double or even triple our membership put of it.
