Well, my Motor Mounts gave out on "Butt Pucker Hill", so I'm doing a 1" MM lift and 1" Body Lift. Mike and I are going to work on it tonight 7/5/05.
Any words of wisdom you could bestoy on us, before we get started, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I'll be home tonight....if you have any problems with the body lift; give me a call.
As far as the motor mount lift; take good notes. I have one coming in the mail tomorrow...and would like to know how easy/difficult that install is.
Once I get them both in; I am in position to do the flat-belly tcase skid.
(I also ordered some nth Degree adjustable rear upper CAs...for when I push the tcase up higher to accommodate the flat-belly.)

Dave, I'm curious as to which mount you go with and how the TJ rides afterwards. I've heard the 2.5L doesn't like the MML's too much, so I'd be curious as to how well it goes. I'd be tempted to do this down the road just so I can get rid of my t-case drop.

The wrenching went very well. I didn't use any PB Blaster, because I still can't find my wallet :( , but with air tools everything broke free just fine.
We installed a Currie 1" motor mount lift and a Currie 1" body lift. It took Mike and I about 45 minutes to complete the body lift. The motor mount lift took about 2 hours to complete. It wasn't too bad just had to use two jacks and work everything in place. Everything is kind of tight so you have to get creative on a couple of bolts.
Both of these mods are a marked improvement for my Jeep. It drives better and it removed all my driveline vibrations. The motor doesn't twist as much, so it feels like I've gained power on the take off.
I wasn't able to remove my T case drop, because I don't have the factory shorter bolts. Does anyone know the lengh, size etc of these bolts?
Hopefully, when I remove the T case drop I won't re-introduce too many vibs :D

Having 2 people definitely made it an easier job.

I kept my bolts. :)

I kept my bolts. :)
I would, my Jeep was lifted when I bought it, but I'm sure Ace can hook me up, if I can only find out the right size. :)

If you can wait a day, I'll get the measurements of the length for you off my stock bolts tonite. Just take your current bolt for the thread size.
Go with Grade 8.

Thanks Paul, you're the man with these measurements. I'm not in a big hurry.
If I had to guess, I would imagine the factory bolts are simply 1" shorter, but I want to be sure.

I went and got me some new bolts and finally removed the T case drop. WOW!! I didn't know my Jeep was that smooth. Now if I can just track down this new wobble I've got. Like my wife keeps saying, eventually you'll have a new Jeep ;)
What is the proceedures for the MM lift? Which Type did you get? Does it replace the entire MM, or just lift the current MM?

Loosen the MM, then support the engine with a jack and block of wood, Then remove the old mount one side at a time and replace it with the new one. We had to use an additional jack to raise the motor up high enough to meet the new mount. Repeat on the other side and then torque everything to specs.
I used the Currie MM and body lift just to make sure everything would match up. The Currie MM replaces the entire mount.

We also unbolted the tcase from the skid b/c we couldn't get the motor to "rotate" to reach the first mount. Once that was done, we were able to use the second jack to rotate the motor up the full inch to reach the new mount.

And that folks... is the reason I get Mike to help me when I wrench. :D

Teddy, sorry I couldn't get the bolt size to ya in time. I had some stuff come up that I HAD to take care of late last week and this weekend and never got a chance to get anywhere close to the Jeep or the bolts.
Some weekends...

No problem. I understand.
It's all good. This mod is worth it just to get rid of the T case drop alone.

You got the 6 cyl right?
I want to get rid of my tcase drop, so I may go the MML/BL route, but am concerned about the 4cyl and its engine vibes.

I've read that if you have a 4 cylnder, go with the M.O.R.E. Torsion Rubber mounts. They were designed with you guys and XJ's in mind. No vibs.

Any word on if they come with the radiator fan shroud relocator? Since I'd be moving the engine and not the body/radiator, the relocator brackets would be nice. :)

If I'm not mistaken you have to do the 1" Body lift in conjuction with the MM lift to get rid of the T case drop.
OK another question or two.
I already have a 1" BL. It utilized a radiator drop as well as a T-Case shifter bracket. I only have 3/4" suspension lift (coil spacers)
1. If i do the 1" MML will I get any negitive effects from NOT having lift?
2. If I add the MML will I need to remove either the radiator drop brackets OR the T-case bracket?
I have a '99 TJ sport with the 4.L

I don't see how it would be bad, it will just improve your driveline angles and even stock Jeeps have a little vib from that crappy slip yoke.

The radiator will need to be put back in the stock location and you probably won't need that T-case bracket.
Sweet thanks for the quick response

Fred thanks for the hint about the cheap 1" lift. But I need a little more info on what I am looking for, as much detail as you can. I would like a few 1" of space bewteen the ground and the Jeep.
To the others, what would be a cheap lift for my Unlimited?

OK the one I was talking about AL, ON top of the front springs on any coil sprung Wrangler, 97 and later I think, and any Cherokee XJ 84 or later, there is a factory Coil Spring Bushing or Spacer, it is a rubber disk that sits in the spring bucket to give it a buffer zone. Your jeep has one you can look at. If you aquire 4 of these and put them on top of your springs, all 4, leavining your factory bushing in place it will in turn be 3/4" lift. These do the same exact thing as my 3/4" Buget Boost. You don't need new shocks or anything, they just give you a little buffer and almost 1" lift.
Then of course for less than $100 you can add a 1" Body LIft. All this does is adds 1" between the body and frame of your jeep. 1" is effective and doesn't harm anything. I would reccommend purchasing a decent kit, one that comes with the Radiator Drop brackets AN the Transfer Case shifter bracket. I know Dave Taylor did his own BL with some hockey Pucks, I'll let him post more info on that. Take it Dave..........................................
