Quick questions all....
I'm considering buying a pop-up tent trailer and want to tow it behind my TJ (4L, 5spd). I know the tow rating on the TJ is 2k lbs, etc., but has anyone had any experience towing such a trailer? Anyone have trouble with braking, fish-tailing or the trailer trying to control the jeep? This trailer happens to be about 13ft long and weighs 920 lbs dry.
Thanks.

13' seems a bit long , but the pop up type trailer is what is best for the cj tj line i tow a 12' trailer w/ my ulimted rubie w/ no worries and i load it up kinda heavy sometimes .But those are not long distance trips either .I did tow a smaller pop up trailer for a weekends trip to the mountains. The trailer all my fishing gear and alotta beer and beef went too .ALL WENT AOK .I would make sure you get the heaviest hitch set-up you can fine .Not bumper , frame mounted is best ! See if there is a place in town or local that you can rent a pop up trailer similar to what you wish to buy and take it for a weekend, use it tow it up a mountain .I do know the shorter wheelbase 's are kinda squirly towin so be careful , your in no hurry !good luck ..

i tow a trailer with my lifted jeep daily for my law care bizz. Its about 13 feet also. Fully loaded with 2 full size mowers, weed-eaters blowers and crew it weighs in probily a little over 2000-2500lbs. I only drive it like that around my neighborhood . It is something i would not want to do going faster than 30 mph with traffic. For my other yards i only carry one mower so the trailer probily weighs around 1500-2000lbs. The trailer has a lot of control over the jeep making it difficuly to mantain speed and stay in your own lane in traffic. I have never taken it on the highway yet because i am afraid that i will loose control or not be able to stop in time. As far as stopping goes, The weight of the jeep vs the trailer is with in 1000-2000lbs so the momentom of the trailer causes the jeep's brakes to lock up a lot and skid to a stop. I dont mind driving the jeep around town with a trailer but as long as you look ahead and avoid any sticky situations you should be ok. But from what i hear the unlimiteds tow like a regular truck would.
here is a pic of my jeep towning one mower. It just looks gooffy, a lifted jeep towing a trailer.

(you can see the jeep is sitting lower in the rear from the weight of the trailer.
hope this gives you an idea of the joys of towing a trailer with a short wheel-based lifted jeep.

A friend of mine drives her automatic with her pop up camper behind it. We drove it from Missouri to Indiana to the Badlands..........she does it all the time. Just no power going uphill on the highway with the camper and her 33's.
