Has anyone tried any of the JK 4-door aftermarket headliners? I'm looking at Hothead, there is also another one, Soundcoat.

Nobody has any comments?! You hardtop guys are completely satisfied with the uninsulated hardtop!

None of the OEM hardtops have ever been insulated. Not on the CJ, YJ, TJ, or the JK. I didn't keep my hardtop on the Little Jeep long enough to know if there was a heat issue or not, but I wonder if it isn't more of an AC issue than a hardtop issue as the JK isn't that much bigger than a TJ. My hardtop had dark tinted windows from the factory, are the JK hardtop windows tinted?

The JK hardtop is just like all the other Wrangler hardtops, large metal and uninsulated, Just like a big steel boxcar headed for Auschwitz!

I've heard goods things about Hotheads and definitely want them.
BTW - hardtop is fiberglass, not steel. I would know since I dropped my first one from 8'. It makes a horrific sound and shatters......

I guess if it were steel it would be a lot hotter. But boy, when it sits out in the sun, superhot!

I would say DON is hitting the nail on the head, the jks ac compressor was not designed from the factory to get really cold. On one of the other forums there its a write up about how to add a resistor to the compressors to make it stay on longer, which if I remember correctly resulted in a 10 degree lower temperature coming out of the vents. Not sure what that would do to the longevity of the compressor

Pssst, Hey MuttyTruckster, you DON'T ever agree with Don!!!! The last time that happened his head got so big that he didn't wheel for four years because he couldn't get in the jeep.......wait that is still going on!!!!
SO that's why he has it torn apart in his garage!!!!!!

Yea, stating the obvious, by accident. It goes without saying that the A/C/ isn't powerful enuf. You score nothing. Especially after I heard about that time the "White Elefant" rolled down a mountain because you don't know how to use a parking brake. You have a definite credibility issue.
You still didn't address the original question.
I found this much less expensive insulation material,

This one eventually gets to the resistor issue somewhere near the second page.

Find out what Bestop uses in their hardtops. I have one of their two piece hard tops and when it is old it keeps the heat out and the cold in and vice versa in the winter. It is almost like carpet. But it works really well.

Now that you mention that, what's this I hear about Jeep putting the Grand V-8 in the new Wranglers?

In October, they are switching to a new V6 that Jeepers seem to like much better. Don't know about a V8 option.

Anybody swapped compressors on the JK's for better/cooler air? I haven't used the compressor in my TJ in years other than a few seconds or so at Stony Lonesome while parked in the sun.

i used the hotheadliners in my jk 4dr rubi, it made a world of difference in summer and winter, and the noise was reduced prolly about 50%.. the hotheadliners are about an inch thick

Since Mr. McGoo hasn't posted his Rant or Rave, I will tell you he was telling me how much the headliner improved the temps and sound level inside his JK. It didn't help his vision, or his memory, but at least he is happy for the moment. :) :)

Actually, the headliner I installed in my JK "Fireball" works great. However, I was watching one of those "Motorhead" mod programs on "Spike" and they were installing an exhaust operated turbo in a 2000 Toyota Tundra. There was an application where additional thermal insulation was needed and they opted for a thermal spray-on material. If I had it to do over, I would look into that first.
