Well, since I've never posted this topic up, and all these Jeep Rumors are popping up.... eh, discuss. Entry level "Jeep", AWD, 4 door, kinda small. Called the MK.

Keep it positve ? hummmm i like the color .Too me this turn is just like all the others forming a line .By that i mean it looks like most others comming off the line w/ some trim changes .Same box differnt badge .When i think of jeep i think i can take the doors off , fold down the windshield ,take the top off , go wheelin , or daily driver .The AWD should be great in the rain and snow , but it does niether here in az .As ford is trying to revamp the bronco ,toyota thier old version updated , I see the retro comeback w/ updated style making its comeback bigtime .Look at the new mustang retro update and selling bigtime .Instead Jeep is boxing it up like the sion ,honda , h2 ,h3 ,etc .I just hope they leave atleast one "HERITAGE " jeep still for us to buy in the future .There ya go the New TJ line keep w/ the vintage style w/ a lil upgrade and call it HERITAGE .My 2 cents .On a more POSITIVE note i think this will be a great daily driver ,chic /mom/grocery getter /weekend campin car .

Isn't boxy retro? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/screwy.gif The problem I see with true retro designs is... where do you go with them? Do you go even further into the past when a redesign comes up? Or do you evolve it? What comes next? Chrysler's struggling with the PT Cruiser as we speak, Chevrolet's HHR is... a porky pig, and looks like a PT ripoff, Mustang will sell well now, give it time... nobody will want it anymore.

Eh... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eusa_doh.gif

Think of the evolution of a retro design as an alternate timeline in the space/time continuum. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

??isn;t boxy retro ?? Well lets see here look at the first jeeps YES boxy , now if your talkin retro back to the model T and A even the 32 ford yeah pretty boxy ,If your talking 60's retro like the mustang is well not so much . The ssr was based off the 50-54 chevy pick up no so boxy kinda swoopy along the same lines as what was copied ... All i am sayin to the jeep people w/ drafting pen in hand , is look ,ya have a timeless design ,some things are better off left alone for the most part . Last time they changed the jeep line we ended up w/ square head lights .
PAUL i think your right ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/screwy.gif < i do this all day

For what its worth, heritage is a wonderful thing, and shouldnt be forgotten. I feel that Dc is banking on tradition more. its the go anywhere idea thats being pushed, but with some of the models, it has to be on pavement. Most new Jeeps never see anything more than a dirt road. Just look at the tires.I bought my Xj new in '96, and the wrangler tires then were not pansy *** tread design. They did very well for stock shoes.Times change! I'm sure there will always be a Jeep that can be trailed, maybe not with the suspenion many prefer, but it will be capable.

Ford already has the "Heritage" Model. I don't know what you would do to make a Jeep more retro than the Tj. I know they were trying to go back to the CJ with the ROund Headlight thing. i think that the way drives makes something retro not the way it looks. Without bad steering, hard starting, sputtering carb and rusty floorboards then it just wouldn't be the same. I think that the look of the TJs are about as retro as you are gonna get. But their ABS, Coils, Airbags and such they just ride too nice for me. I am not taking anything away form them though because they are great vehicles just not my cup of tea. Ohh and by the way the Mustang is awesome and it is here to stay.

I think although not really going to look retro it will look different and as long as they keep the boxy lines it will be ok for me-not an offroader but definately a mall rated driver instead

Laugh all you want, but that Compass has more style and class than any ricer with neon and a fart pipe. Too bad it's an "artist rendering", and probably won't look anywhere near as cool when it rolls off the assembly line.

I really like that color of green. But I have to say IF I ever re-paint my jeep the wife will pick the color, it'll either br forest green, or a dark blue

I can see this is a real pick for my daughter when she turns 16

Lets face it putting a new driver in a car is kind if scary.

AWD is a good idea for new drivers.

Yeah, I guess that's why I have a Jeep, huh?

That Neon idea only lasted about a couple months.

The MK seems to get in and out of snow ditches ok. :) More clearance than I thought they would give it. Maybe the Patriot won't be THAT bad?

Marlon--I see your sig doesn't call a Unlimited a LJ but a TJ. JP magazine calls the UL a LJ...who is right?

Marlon_JBT

Why must every topic be about my signature?

OFFICIALLY, I am correct. Whether others choose to admit it is their own problem.

Now, back to the regularly scheduled program. ;)

Mar-I see you are using black, red and blue in your sig with different fonts? Is that the way it supposed to be? JUST kidding with ya man!

Wonder if you'll be able to tweak it for more flex so all wheels stay on the ground.

IMO, I'm not totally against Jeep having a rally type car for the streets. Would love to see em do something vs the Evo's and WRX's out there. If sales are up, they'll have more funds to continue/enhance the lines we love.

Yup, Paul, I agree. I'm also not against Jeep for wanting a 30MPG vehicle either. :) If they disconnect the sway bars, I'm sure they can get more flex out of it. I don't think these two are going to be that bad. CVT too? Infinite gear ratios... perfect for hill climbing.

A lot of people don't understand that Jeep has to make these vehicles to stay alive.

I don't really like the compass, Jeeps and cars don't seem to go together in my opinion, but the patriot looks pretty cool.

Right now, Jeeps = cars doesn't seem to make sense. But look at what Audi with Quattro and its rally championships. Turned the Audi name into a name to be reckoned with for AWD and such. Subaru is the same thing. Its AWD won it LOTS of rally championships. Where would the Evo be w/o the AWD and its rally heritage? It'd be just another Civic/Accord family car and sportscar wannabe.

Jeep has a potential to use its 4wd/awd technology in an arena where that is a desired component for safety and for performance. Heck, even a Lambo has all four wheels getting power.

IF, and that is a HUGE if, Jeep can market these rides as competition for the Evo and WRX's out there, then there is a shot.

But that brings up a point: What is the key marketing point for these cars? Probably speed. With the 2.4 4cyl, I dunno if it could compete with these guys. If the ride is light enough, and the engine tweaked or charged, then maybe. It also has to have styling that gets this younger crowd interested as well. Yes, I'm talking about the ricer type of crowd.

It will need to have an aftermarket for performance mods AND for styling mods. Jeep should be dealing with vendors and makers of aftermarket stuff to prime type pipelines and have some aftermarket mods ready to go. That it has an engine already in use in Neons will help greatly.

I personally would love to see a Jeep rally car-type vehicle dust an Evo or a WRX! :)

It has officially been announced. Sadly, it's ugly. Oh well.

2.4L has 172HP.

Someone in the design studio is highly obsessed with the Libby's styling. Someone knock him in the head and tell him that it doesn't work on EVERYTHING.
