I know this has been discussed in the past, but I'm looking for a specific type of trailer - namely the military style ones like the M416 or M100 type used in WW2 or Korea. Does anybody know if the bases in the area have any they are wanting to get rid of?

I've found one in Indiana for $1,000, but was not sure if that was a good price or not. Any pointers to this type (or similar) trailer would be great.

I want to use it for general hauling in town, but specifically for camping outings and such.

for that kind of use you would do a **** of alot better getting a small, 8-12ft cargo trailer, like a lawn mower type! You can get it custom made with sides and all!

The trailer i use in back of my jeep is a 12' and i raised the sides w/ some pool fence i cut down and welded to the 2' top rail .Got the fencing for 20 bux at a yard sale , the trailer new was 850- .I have seen the trailer your looking for and they are tough heavy rugged trailers that look like they could withstand a bomb blast .But they do not hold a lotta stuff as they run shallow .price range here in the southwest is anywhere from 300-2500 . found some on the ole ebay too .Do a search that is nearest to you and you never know ya may find one in your area cheap .good luck .

Look in the new Petersens 4Wheel & Offroad I think they have something about a trailer you might be looking for. I think it is in the first couple pages????

I'm with Fred on this one. There's a RV dealer here that sells an offroad popup camper. Aside from it having a place to put a couple of 4-wheelers, all they did was flip the axles and put 30x9.50x15 tires on it. I see no reason why you couldn't do the same for less than $1k. And have all new equipment to boot.

What exactly are you going to be using the said trailer for? The military trailers are great for small heavy stuff, They can be loaded heavy, they have 37" Hummer tires and leaf spring suspensions, they unfortunatly do Not handle rough terrain well unless they are loaded and the trailers them selves are heavy. IF you are looning at a trailer to use offroad, I would go back to my original statement, You can buy a lawnmower trailer for around $500, and get it customized how YOU want it. A simple spring over conversion and some beefier springs and you can get 30's or 31's on it. I have even see guys do a coil spring conversion on a trailer and the trailer will "flex" with the terrain. If you are just loonking for a trailer to get more storage space out of your jeep when you camp, fish, hunt or whatever, then just a plain 8-12" lawnmower/utility trailer is the way to go! Just my opinion.........

Listen to Fred, Paul, dont think you need that kind of load capacity, for your needs. The military has no concern about fuel consumption. and towing that thing around will take a chunk out of it.are you really going to go down trails with it? For camping, we use one of those platformsthat connect into the receiver, and that has a 500 lbs capacity, and that goes for about 80 bucks. For major dump runs and such,
i picked up an ok used home built trailer for three hundred. There are options out there, and all depends on budget, and what you need to haul. Have fun

I'm not necessariliy looking for an offroad trailer per se, but I LOVE those little M146 trailers! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif It would see trail time, but mainly the kind of trails that take you to camping areas, kinda like at TB.

This would be for camping and the occasional haul of stuff around town. We have a pickup (kinda) for that, but having that capability with the Wrangler is just a nice to have.

Does anybody have pics of trailers with camping gear loaded? I'm open to the lawn mower trailer concept, but having a pic of the mods you guys suggest would really help.

And I know the 2.5L can pull. I pulled a Sammi off the trail on Saturday. Granted it was flat, but I also pulled him up on to his trailer too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif FUN STUFF!

I know it can pull too!!! I've pulled my 16' flatbed before, that's the trailer I used to haul my Jeep around. Granted all I had on it was a large lawn tractor, but it and the trailer together probably grossed around 2k to 2.25k lbs. It pulled just fine in 4th gear at 50 to 55 mph. And I have pulled the popup camper on a couple of occasions. I wouldn't want to go very far with that one. It wants to fishtail too much!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eusa_doh.gif

I found one up in Indiana that somebody want's 1,000 for. Once we have gotten rid of our truck, I might be able to convince the wife that a good restored one is the way to go. :)

Albert, I saw some of those over at Camp Jeep last year.

www.textrax.com has some, but dang pricey.

I want an actual M100, M101, or M416 trailer, preferably in a military green, with the (accurate) markings and the pintle connection. There is a guy who lives where I used to live in California that sells em for just a bit over 1,000, but if I can convince my wife with the one I showed above, I'd love to do that.

I want to be able to use it for camping, hauling stuff in town, or whatever. I don't want a dedicated camping trailer, but I want something that will do what I need it to do.

The $500 trailers at Lowe's are not what I'm wanting. :)
