i dont know much about em but check out jeep forum and some of the stickys in the model specific tech forums. the TJ forum has an awesome breakdown of models, engines, axles, etc. they may have the same thing for the ZJ

I believe they were talking about adjusting bands in the transmission. Anyway there are a few options in transfer cases for the ZJ. The full time 249. The command trac 231. The select trac 242. The debate as which is better/ stronger can go on for days I have read pages and pages on these forums. The 231 gives you 2 wheel, 4 hi, 4 low. The 242 has 2 wheel, 4 hi part time, 4 hi full time, and 4 low. I personally swapped out my 249 which went bad for a 231 which I am happy with. By the way there is a round tag on your transfer case with the number. It should say NP ??? Hope this helps.

i have had three zjs and a wj all with full time and love them. drive 50 miles to work and back every day. go to turkey bay and beat on it on the weekends if this one goes out i will do a swap. put in the 231 and go on. there are lots of info on the swap ,just goggle it.

I think naxja.org may have a zj section or at least a sticky on transfer cases
