On my way to work this morning, the transmission started to make a tremendous racket; Clicking, knocking noises. I dropped it off at the dealer and this afternoon was informed that the transmission (6 speed) needed replacement.
The vehicle only has 7500 miles on it. It has not been off road, other than dirt roads, nothing major yet. The service desk said it looked as if it had water contamination. It is being replaced under warranty. Has anyone else heard of this happening with 05 Wrangler Unlimited's? This thing has been babied so far. Just curious.

Weird. Definitely sounds like a one in a million thing. Never heard of it before. Nothing on Google either.
It better have been replaced under warranty... no excuse not to cover it.

Buffalo, with all the rain in FL this spring, have you driven through any deep water at all? A little bit of water to drive through is no big deal, but if it is in it for a while, you'll run the risk of getting water contamination in the t-case, tranny, and possibly the differentials.
I know it is humid down there, but I wouldn't think THAT would do it.
Whenever you get it back, see if they can install a breather tube on your transmission and have them run it up into the engine bay where the front differential breather tube sits.
Other than that, I honestly don't know how that would happen at 7500 miles and a TLC'd Jeep.
Where in FL are ya? I go down there every so often to enjoy the beaches of Destin/Ft. Walton Beach and Panama City.

The vehicle has not been through any deep water, no more than the average puddle you'd find on any city street. We have had a bunch of rain this spring, no doubt. But I am having a real hard time believing this.
I appreciate the suggestion for a breather tube and might have the shop install one. Can anyone provide me with any urls or resources that might explain this transmission better?
I have an 87 Toyota 4Runner that I have beaten the daylights out of and have never encountered any transmission problems (other than clutch replacement, normal)
Best regards

I have a 99 with 35"s and haven't regeared yet and I know my tranny doesn't like it, but knock on wood, still going strong. AW4(4spd auto) are bulletproof.
