GEAUX TIGERS--- oh, wait, wrong year LOL!!!
Im watching, but only so I can participate in conversation at school this week.
I do like the idea of 2 Nat champs from the same state 2 years in a row... maybe SEC will finally get some respect.

Was a good game, but I have yet to see Newton live up to all the hype. I have only watched two of his games, but he just didn't show me what everyone is praising him over in either. I don't understand why everyone is so high on him going into the draft and everyone was so low on Tebow.
I would take Tebow over Newton any day.

Congrats to the AU fans.
I fell asleep--- oh well.
I went to the AU/LSU game- and I did see why all the hype. He was amazing to watch. Reminded me of watching Shaq at LSU-- those TRUE gifted/ talented athletes just have something about them.

I agree 100%
Give Tebow a little more time to develope and I believe he will turn out to be an outstanding quarterback.

Cam had an average game last night. But as you can see in the video above he is one of those players who comes along every 10 years or so. Who can move like that at 6'6" & 250 lbs? He is also a very good passer at the college level.
I think Tebow is the greatest college player of all time. Most of the negativity about his game came when the pros started to evaluate him. This will happen with Cam to.
Cam has a long & slow release that will get scrutinized. And they will probably compare him to Vince Young since they are similar in abilities. And some will even be guilty of comparing Cam's potential with the disappointment of Vince Young.
But if my team needed a QB & Cam is on the board I think he is worth a shot.

I believe Cam will bea pretty good QB at the next level..he has the size and the speed plus a **** of an arm....not only he has the ability to change playes at the line...all this makes his a pretty good prospect!!!!!!!

Send Cam to Dallas. Just get an offensive line that can protect the QB and it'd be great! :)

So what Auburn games did you see this year besides the BCS NC? I will admit, the BCS NC game was probably Cam's least impressive game all year long, but if anyone doubts Cam Newton's ability, then they have obviously not been following Auburn football (or college football, for that matter) this season. Even all the Auburn haters (ESPN) have said how dominating of a player he has been this year, in the nation's toughest conference at that. He was the key to Auburn's offense all season long, and led AU to an undefeated season in the SEC, not to mention an absolutley crushing performance over South Carolina in the SEC championshio game. He won the Heisman by the largest margin of victory in years, and his stats are just obscene.
As far as how Cam will do in the NFL, who knows? No one thought Tebow would be worth a dang in the NFL, and he had a great rookie season in Denver (and btw, even though I can't stand UF, I am very much a Tebow fan). I see Cam as being more of a Michael Vick/Vince Young type of player, so I guess it will depend on what team he ends up with
Anyway, I will miss Cam when he's gone, but he has given us Auburn fans some memories that won't soon be forgotten. War Eagle!

You are correct I don't follow college football. I am strictly a NFL fan. I like watching every once in a while to see prospects coming out and only saw Newton in one other game. I watched that game due to the hype I was hearing about him and no other reason. Even then it wasn't that he played bad, he just didn't strike me as the legend everyone was hyping him up to be (sorry do not recall which game it was). Fairley, on the otherhand, was a beast in both games I saw.

They are the Tigers.
War Eagle is a school yell, cheer, whatever and an informal mascot. Kind of like the Crimson Tide and the elephant, I think. :)
Plainsmen? Perhaps from the time before they were officially Auburn?
My universities didn't have such identity crises. :)
Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma State Cowboys
North Texas Mean Green (okay, their mascot was an Eagle)...
UAH Chargers
How'd I do, Chip? :)

The mythical War Eagle I has the most colorful story of all of the "War Eagles". War Eagle I's story begins in the Civil War. According to the legend, a soldier from Alabama was the sole Confederate survivor of a bloody battle. Stumbling across the battlefield, he came across a wounded young eagle. The bird was named Anvre, and was cared for and nursed back to health by the soldier. Several years later the soldier, a former Auburn student, returned to college as a faculty member, bringing the bird with him. For years both were a familiar sight on campus and at events. On the day of Auburn's first football game in 1892 against the University of Georgia, the aged eagle broke away from his master during the game and began to circle the field, exciting the fans. But at the end of the game, with Auburn victorious, the eagle fell to the ground and died.
This legend was originally published in 1960 in the Auburn Plainsman and was conceived by then-editor Jim Phillips. Though apocryphal, this tale is most often told as the beginning of the association of "War Eagle" with Auburn.

Tom,
Paul came pretty close to the explanation. Our mascot is the Tigers, Hence the Auburn Tigers (a pet peeve on mine is when folks call us the "Auburn War Eagles")
"War Eagle" is our battle cry, and it's what Auburn folks say to one another in passing. Like if I were on vacation in say, California, and I saw another person wearing an Auburn hat or t-shirt, I would walk up to them and say "War Eagle," and we would have an instant bond. This is especially true among alumni of the college. There are several stories as to the origin of the phrase "War Eagle," but the most common one that I have always heard is as follows:
"War Eagle I (1892)The mythical War Eagle I has the most colorful story of all of the "War Eagles". War Eagle I's story begins in the Civil War. The city's unofficial nickname is “The Loveliest Village On The Plains,” taken from a line in the poem “The Deserted Village” by Oliver Goldsmith: “Sweet Auburn! loveliest village of the plain...”
Since Auburn is often referred to "The lovliest village on the plains" the term "plainsman" is often used to refer to Auburn folks.
I know that is probably more info than you wanted, but that's the quickest., easiest explanation of all our many "nicknames." :)

If you think about Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee are similar in that there is more than one icon of their teams.
Alabama is "The Crimson Tide" but has an elephant as a mascot. How could you have a Crimson Tide as a mascot. It might could be done but would be difficult. And of course everybody has heard the term "Roll Tide!"
Auburn has the Tiger as their mascot & their cry is "War Eagle!"
Tennessee are "The Volunteers" but have a dog "Smokey" as their mascot. I think there is a guy with a gun & a coonhat running around though to. And they like to yell "Rocky Top!"
