This last trip to TB we had a brake line failure. I was un able to get the factory line to flair so i was un-able to patch it. I did have a plug to put in the master cylinder to allow 3 brakes to work. I am working on a better repair kit for brakes to allow a temporary flexible tube to connect from the master cylinder to the brake roter.

Here is what is in my kit so far..

- 2 24" sections of brake line
- brake line cutting tool
- brake line bender
- flairing tool
- bag of various brake line fittings to make patches.
- Torque wrench
- full set of metric sockets & wrenches
- various metric bolts
- spair upper and lower control arms
- extra rear drive shaft
- front hub assymbly with dummy short shaft incase of front axle shaft failure
- extra brake hose (the flexible part that attaches to the caliper)
- Usually cary a large bottle of brake fluid
- Impact wrench and sockets

I still plan to add more, but thats what I carry now.

What do you carry?

Indy, why do ya gotta say things like that? It's about 25 days from when we head out to Tellico to link up with you, and you drop a statement like that. I don't have no Dana35 spares just "lying" around....was that a serious statment, or were you just being clever???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

HEY TOM!

Can you post a pic or a parts list of your air hose adapter you use at TB?

I'm not doing any OBA any time soon, but would like to make something like that so I can air up when done.

Well all you need Paul is both a quik connect female and male plug, and then the air chuck. I went and bought a smancy pantsy quick lock air chuck at wal mart for 6 bucks, and it makes for a great way (well, a lazy way) to both air up, and air dowm. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tu.gif

Landon, I have heard that Tellico is infamous for beating up Dana 35's, and even some Dana 30's, so I am pretty sure that Bill (IndyXJ) is being dead serious.

You guys still have time to order a spare between now and your trip. If you don't need it maybe someone else does, etc. I have to carry some since NOONE has spare shafts for me unless I'm running with 1997+XJ's.

Gumby, you got some part numbers for that stuff? Does it have a hose or anything that connects to the TB air pumps or do you just have the end piece?

I'd LOVE to get some of those Staun tire deflators. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think I should start an Xmas list. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif hehehe

singing... "It's beginning to look a lot like (Jeep) Xmas..."

What does a spare shaft cost, and where is a good place to order them from? Money is very tight for me right now.

If your running the D35 you should be able to pick up a set of spare shafts for next to nothing on ebay or junk yard.

The ones Dave bought were about $60 I think ... but thanks to Dave's urge to upgrade and generosity he passed them on to me.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PS - If your current shafts don't have the ABS tone rings on them then you will have to find spares without them on it. If they do have them then I think you can run either set but without you'll lose ABS. At least I hope that is correct b/c I have ABS tone rings and my spares don't have them .... :crossfinger:

OK Lets see.....
2 fire ext.
hi lift
2 tow straps
enough tools to change an engine
my tow rig and trailer (your welcome Micah)
lunch
lots of water
Dogs and Dog supplies
Spare
Regular jack
lug wrench AND 4 way
a bunch of zip ties, ratchet straps, duct tape, bailing wire and bubble gum
a hydro floor jack
a 2 ton comealong
alot of wheeling buddies.......

As for the shafts Lando, it is good to carry spares to Tellico. The tine I went one of my buds blew a U-Joint on a D30 shaft, we had a spare and got him going. I would have a spare set of shafts for the D30 AND D35, especially with a locker. Don't be discoureged, Tellico is not garrented to break you, just you may be more apt to break, picture Rocky Top around every turn. Lots of fun!

Landon,
If you query around on the classified sections of:
JeepForum
JeepBoard
JeepsUnlimited
Pirate4x4

or similar -high-volumn- Jeep forums; you can pickup a spare D35 shafts for around $50 bucks pretty easily. You might also browse ebay.

The thing is, with Tellico; if you broke a rear semi-float axle; and don't have at least rear disc-brakes with calipers to hold the wheel on; you will have to get a replacement shaft and install it there; before you can get out.

-Some of the trails are too far back and too rough for a wrecker to come and load you up;

-Even if you got it off the trail; the OHV Park is 20 miles or so from Tellico Plains, TN or Murphy, NC.

If you really can't find any; then check with the guys that are going; and maybe someone else in the group has a spare set that in a pinch; they could loan you to get out off the trail.

When I upgraded my rear to a Ford 8.8; I gave my spare shafts to Mike Ward; so if he goes on the trip; at least there will be one spare set of 35 shafts.

It would be best though, to find a set to always carry; and when you get ready to upgrade to a bigger rear axle; you won;t have any trouble finding anyone to buy the spare shafts back from you.
