My x-hubby bought my son a 1997 jeep wrangler and I am looking for a back seat. I don't care what it looks like because we can always buy a cover. I would like one with seat belts.
Can someone help me?

I think, key word is think, any rear seat out of a 1997 to 2003 TJ will work. The Seat belts are attached to the roll bar and to the floor of the cargo area...no to the seat, so it is two separate items that you are looking for. Davey's Jeeps dot com maybe a place to check.

They usually have it, the question is how much$$$.... also there will be some brackets that should be bolted to the floor of the Jeep in the cargo ara for the seat,,, if you don't have these, you will need them also. Again, part of the Jeep, not seat, but parts are required.

There are two brackets mounted on the bed and go up on the tire wheel. Is that the bracket you are talking about? There are also little hooks on the bed too.

Are there special brackets on the seat that I have to look for as well? Or should the seat come with the hardware?

The seat has a rod on either side that slide into the holes in the the brackets that are in the bed of the jeep. A pin goes on the rods after eveything is place. You Should see a black bolt that has a star pattern in it around the middle of your bed. If you don't have the bolt you should at least see tth hole in the bed. This is where the buckle for the two seat belts attaches.

IIRC, the connections at the seat end are not removable from the seat, so as long as you have the brackets (female end of brackets) bolted to the tub of the Jeep, and they match male end on the seat, you should be good. From my understanding, this hardware was the same from 1997 to 2003? and then changed, but do your own research as I am going off memory. There are two shoulder belts, one on each of the rear roll bar, then there should be two shorter lap belt ends that are connected to a single bracket that bolts to the center of the floor of the cargo area.

It sounds like I have all the brackets that I have to have. Now, when I find a seat and belts to put in the jeep, where can I go to get all the washers and bolts to attach everything with?

You may already have everything you need, minus the seat.

There are a fair number of IAJ people in the Clarksville, TN area... I suspect that no one would have a problem with you looking at how there rear seat (prior to 2003) connects in... the seat is made to go in and come out fairly easy, plus when the seat is in, you can quickly fold it down and flip it against the back of the front seats which will give you a little more cargo room when needed. Most Jeeps esp. IAJ people, will bend over backwards to help you, so when you see a Jeep in a parking lot, look for IAJ stickers, and ask the owner for a peak at his/her rear seat.

My boys are still military. My x is active duty, does that count? And it would be great if you would ask around. I have been on craigslist and campbell yard sale every day.
