I'm intrested in a yj with a v8 i found on craigslist, just wondering if anyone can tell me the signs and symptoms of a not so great engine swap? Thanks for the help!

I'd start with looking at how square and level the engine sits. I'd also look at how the welds look for the engine mounts. If it looks like a cobbled up mess, it most likely is and I'd run unless it was extremely cheap. If it looks like someone paid attention to details and spent time installing it, then its probably done right. Look for oil and coolant leaks, another thing I look at when I'm looking at something someone built, are the hose clamps clocked to where you can get a nutdriver/screwdriver on them easily. IMO: a good mechanic will clock the clamps to make it easy to repair.

I have not seen it yet. I talked to the sellers wife and she doesnt know what size engine but the ac/heat works! I also need it to pass emissions because i live in wilson co... i'm thinking that may be more trouble than the whole thin gs worth. I'll post pics and my findins when I see it. I'm hoping it will be my new daily driver. Great advice YJason... It would definately tick me off if the clamps were not clocked!!!

Its kindo of a cream color yj with 33 inch tires. It looks good in the pictures... but that doesnt mean much. I'm trying to sell my truck to fund the jeep purchas, but thats going about as slow as trading with private owners. I don't mind an ugly jeep ad long ad it runs decent. The problems I've found are people trying to pass a 4 banger off as a 4.0, putting 33s on and leavinh the stock gears and tires rubbing in a turn. If anyone knows of anything decent I can use as a daily driver I would apperciate it so much. I was a marine and I work on an ambulance, so when I say looking for a daily driver jeep without going into debt is the most stressful thing I've done, it means something...

sounds like it all right. If it is the same one, it's in pretty shoddy shape.....
