Decided to just go ahead and build up my tj. Thought it would atleast give me something to do.

What I am putting on
-New rear leafs
-Hydro Assist
-42" TSL's Grooved
-Pro comp rockcrawler wheels
-Dana 44 hp
-Dana 60 FF
-Front detriot
-Rear undecided locker
-5.38 gears
-Steel brake lines
-High-steer knuckles
-High-steer arms
-DOM steering linkage
-all new pro comp shocks
-Heavy duty front diff cover

I will post pictures as soon I get things moving. Having to do alot of other side work right now and dont have much time. Once its all said and done I think it will be asome.

I would not run that D44 and 42's. A D44 is not much good for anything over 35's. I can however, and I may have already told youo about these, hook you up with a D60 front and 14B rear locked with 5.38's (pretty sure that is what they are geared) for around $1600. Just let me know. Sounds like you have a good game plan though. Get some pics of this monster up for us.

This dana 44 will hold. 35 spline alloy shafts and hoping to get ox u-joints. Oh and High pinion thats alittle stronger. And it a 44's in front not rear front has less pressure on it. I know tons of people runng 36in tire on a dana 30. And about the rear 14 very bad on clearence. And The rear is a full float meaning the axle shafts are suspended so less pressure. This should hold up good from talking to the guys on pirate4x4. You cant find axles as nice as I got locked with 5.38 gears for $1,400. Trust me I looked.

BillM
06-13-2005, 03:57 PM
Well definately some tough shafts up front. 60 in the back would be plenty too. I agree the 14B has to be shaved to get some clearance back. One friend has shaved an inch off the bottom and still catches it. I think that will be eliminated with his 39.50's though. Sounds like you got it worked out. Don't forget those pics.

Are those on your Jeep already? Need some more lift or something. Either that or cut the fender wells out.

bigblacktj
06-16-2005, 05:24 PM
Na that is just siting beside my jeep. It will be enough lift I think. It will have about 6in less tire in fender.

BillM
06-16-2005, 07:38 PM
LOL....I thought you had them mounted on there already.

gmbtj
06-16-2005, 09:20 PM
you need the competition cut crusher corners for the rear and then move your rear axle back a few inches and then you will be able to stuff those big ole tires. Im thinking quarter elliptical for the leaf springs in the rear.

BillM
06-16-2005, 09:30 PM
it is a TJ Pat. Do you have leaves or coils Black?

gmbtj
06-16-2005, 09:44 PM
He has a completely custom setup. Custom long arms up front, (and i mean really lonngggggggggggggg arms) and a custom leaf spring setup in the rear. It stands at almost a good 8 or so inches over mine, and flexes like crazy.

nothing on the suspenion is stock all built. Not sure what I am going to do started installing hydro assist tonight.

bigblacktj
06-19-2005, 10:16 PM
hydro assist is on. I put it on my dana 30 untill I get everything worked out. You can turn you wheels into almost anything. Not as strong as I herd it was going to be but makes me happy and is the best steering stablizer ever they say you cant hardly get death wobble with it. I will take pictures tomorow.

IndyXJ
06-20-2005, 12:47 AM
What is or what does hydro assist do for you? I hear it tossed around alot, but want to know what it does from someone first hand. Thanks!

gmbtj
06-20-2005, 02:37 PM
i think people that run the bigger tires usually run hydro assist or something similar, because with it, turning those big meats with just regular power steering would be quite hard. I dunno if it replaces the power steering pump or more or what it replaces, but it does something that gives the steering system more power.

BillM
06-20-2005, 05:47 PM
You actually use the power steering pump to work the Hydro assist. There is a write-up on Pirate about tapping into the steering pump to run the hydro's.

bigblacktj
06-20-2005, 08:10 PM
I drove it around for the first time today with hydro assist. This is what it does for yout it Increases your turning power by useing a ram for pushing power. Makes it easyer to turn into stuff like rocks when offroad and helps turn a larger tire for that matter. On road it works as the best steering sablizer you can have. Keeps you from getting death wobble no matter what.( dont hold me to that though) But all in all it just makes it easy to turn your tires and helps you in part like when you offroad and your steering pump just doesnt have enough to turn into something. The only thing I dont like and am looking into doing something about is there is a delay in fluid sent from your power steering to your ram. So there is some delay of reaction but very very very little. Wouldnt hurt you offroad at all but on road its hard to get use to but now in just one day of driving I think I am use to it. Well anyways here are picture.

bigblacktj
06-21-2005, 06:02 PM
If I would have know more about it soon I would have had this on it along time ago. It helps with bump steer and never get death wobble on the way back from the trail.

Yep, I know.

bigblacktj
06-27-2005, 06:59 PM
I am trying to get M.O.R.E to replace the Mount. I am going to wheel one more time before my jeep is done wheeling. I get some of it repainted in 3 weeks. So it will be something before then.

scrambled
06-27-2005, 11:29 PM
Your not gonna wheel that thing with a broken motor mount are you? I would just weld that up and it should be good.

bigblacktj
06-28-2005, 12:14 AM
I am not going to wheel it hoping to have fixed by end of week.

bigblacktj
06-28-2005, 04:57 PM
Having problems getting another bracket from M.O.R.E. they clam it might now be defective. It broke while being on the jeep correctly and its not defective. Its bomb proof this shouldnt brake I havent even put it through much. I dont know what to say hold up on the build.

My transfer case is still a np231 but with the 2low and the HD slipyoke with 32spline safts. With enlarged yoke to take larger u-joints. Now thats strong. As for hydro assist I am adding a bigger container and a cooler on the return line. still trying to decide if I want to take the wheel base to about 108. I got some Air shocks now for the rear if I want to use them for the suspenion. building a new front bumper with stringer and tube fenders. any other ideas I should do to this jeep.

Well if I see him on I will ask him some questions but I think I have everything ready to go. For the rear suspenion links I am running high clearance Lowers. I will post of picture of them after I get the built or atleast layed out. On the end connecting to my frame I will be running 1 1/8" by 1 1/8" hiems for the part connecting to the axle will be a rubber bushing joint(for alittle softness to it) The lowers will be made out of some metal as last 2in with 1/4in wall. I will be running a wishbone 4link so the upper connecting to the axle will be Johnny joint and the 2 connecting to frame will be rubber bushings. The upper will be 1 1/2" .120 DOM I think. The rear will be riding on my custom Air shocks. Not sure on length yet but think I am shooting for 114".

For the front steering today I ordered FK JMX hiems 3/4 by 3/4 for my ends. Will be running DOM steering linkage in front.

gmbtj
08-22-2005, 08:20 PM
Similar to a Wishbone suspension for the rear, which is what I plan on doing in the distant future.

bigblacktj
08-22-2005, 11:18 PM
Those hiems I took the picture of where for steering. I got 1 by 1 1/8 for lower arms links in. And My johnny joint came in today for upper. So did my driverside steer knuckle had it milled and drilled and taped. Running all steering up on top of highsteer arms. I will try and get pictures once I get steering cleaned up and ready to go starting college this week so not much time for working on jeep.

Went and picked up the axles gears with lockers in them. Also picked up a stronger rear differ cover. Now I have to work on front diff cover. Also had the air shocks charged with 250psi of nitrogen today. Bent the tubes for grill protector and tube fenders. Put rear axle together enough I can roll it out to finsh with brackets on axles inside. Picked up tubes for the cage to beaf it up alittle untill can get another one. I will get more pictures up later this week.

Lets here what you think of build so far.
