Personally, I'm going the real simple route...
Mopar 5W-30 Oil and a Mopar oil filter.
Dealers are doing the oil changes until my free changes are up. After that, I think I'll switch to synthetic. Not sure.
My preferred oil filter is NAPA's top of the line. Oil, Penz oil, or valvoline (spell?).

I've used the WalMart oil filter. I have used a synth blend in Kermit, Valvoline I believe. But now I use Mobil 1 for all my vehicles.

i use the k&n oil filter or the purulater pure one filter the k&n has a boss on the bottom to put a wrench or socket on it also drilled for a safety wire as far as oil i use castrol on brake in and mobil 1 synthetic after that i have had a lot of good luck with the mobil 1 keeps the motor cleaner longer and handles higher temps longer

I have used the K&N oil filter as well. Not bad, just pricey, like some of the other ones. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Supertech filters from Walmart are really, really good filters. I work at a paper mill that produces filter paper for automotive filters, and I know which type of paper is used in the Supertech filter. I was AMAZED when I found out what they were using in such a low priced filter. They are using one of the very best grades of paper that we make. I don't see how they can use that premium sheet of paper in such a low priced filter.
I use the Supertechs on my vehicles.

I use generally Mobile 1 synthetic and purilator filter

I use been using Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filters changing every 6000 miles. I plan on changing to Amsoil and not sure what filter I will go with. Then I can change every 25000 miles. I may get some flack over these intervals but I have seen the tests and NOTHING beats Amsoil. There is absolutely NO wear after 25000 miles on an engine running Amsoil. It is pricey but when you break it down it is about like buying Mobil 1 every 5-6000 miles.

i use the stock mopar filter and valvoline oils .As far as how often , i personaly change my own oil and do my own grease on ALL my vehicles .On the jeep its every 1,500 miles .Here in the az heat dirt dust mud etc i deem it a must .besides its cheap insurance for your motor , and a good idea if your keeping your jeep for more than 10 years which i plan to do.With road temps at 130+ and operating motor temps at 210 , oils break down fast .

Where can this oil be purchased and at about what price? I would be interested in useing this in my Deisal! I change now every 10,000, filter every 5000, but if I could push to 25000 and 10000 I would happily do so!

There are alot of different places you will find it. Some ppl become dealers for it out of their house. They get the discount and sell to there friends. Lemme check into it.

Fred:
Go to "thedieselstop" (http://www.thedieselstop.com/) website. I'm sure there will be some ad for Amsoil somewhere. If not, do a search. There are three or four dealers on that site. The one that immediately comes to mind is Bob Riley. He has an internet deisel performance business. In fact, I bet he'll have other stuff you might like as well! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tu.gif
Thanks Jim, great site, something to spend more money on!
Mobil 1 & Fram (yeah, I know but I like the little black gripper they paint on).
The Willys 2A may get introduced to syn. oil. The tranny, t-box, and diffs will all get MT90 & 75W90 Redline (when I get them put back together).
You know I have a Dodge Ram with Cummings Diesal and I was told by Tech at the dodge dealer, one who deals with JUST the deisals, that if they can prove you are using fram filters it will void the Cummings 100,000 mile warrenty! I use pureoilater

Mobile 1 Oil, Mobile 1 Filter change ever 3 K miles
With a mobile 1 oil and filter you can go WAY more than 3000 Gil. WHen I do mobile 1 in my Dodge it is oil evey 10,000 filter every 5,000. In the jeep I will go to mobile 1, in both jeeps, and do probably filter at 3000 and oil at 6000. Thats just me though.

I found some prices on Amsoil. It is about $8 a quart for cars. The oil for diesels may be a lil more. But, diesels can go like 30000 on the oil (or more) and filters every 7000.

Aren't there laws that prevent that from happening?
I was under the impression that if a dealer/manufacturer says that any aftermarket product used in regular vehilce maintance voided the warranty then they have to provide the "correct" said part under warranty.
Any one know for sure?
I use valvoline 10w-30 and the super duper Fram ph16 filter in both Jeeps. Our '96 is sitting on just about 230K miles with original engine and my '98 is at about the 120K mark.
Maybe I'm lucky but this combo seems to be doing just fine.

$1 a quart????????????????????? Dang!!!!!! I am pretty sure that they cannot void a warranty because you used "x" brand filter.
HE was saying it is because Fram has been proven to break down faster than normal under use in the diesal engine and the pieces of filter can damage engine.

Fred, a good buddy of mine that works in the business told me about how poorly Fram filters perform in multiple pass testing. He convinced me to never use Fram again.
As a side note: When I bought my XJ, the oil needed changing and was very black. When I changed the oil, the only filter in stock that would fit it, other than a Fram, was a Mobil 1. I was amazed at how heavy that filter was compared to the Fram. Within 1k miles after that oil change, the oil was dirty again, but didn't ever get as dirty as it was when I bought it. Af my second change, again using the Mobil 1, the oil was cleaner at 2.5k miles that it was after only 1k miles with the first change. I honestly believe that filter is cleaning out my engine. I don't know what filter was used before, but I sure can tell a difference with this one.

Maybe there is something that I don't know, but I've always used Fram ToughGuard or DoubleGuard filters in all my vehicles. Never had a problem yet. Put 300k miles on my Toyota 4wd truck with a Fram.
As for oil, I use Chevron 10w-30w in both my jeeps. Its cheap and it works.
