Lets here what you think is to big of a tire? I am trying to decide how big of a tire to go. I already have them picked out just want to hear what you think is to big or not big enough for my jeep. Lets here it.
My opinion would be for a D30/D35 combo anything oer 33 is too big, for a D30/D44 Combo anything over 35 is too big. Keep in mind EITHER tire size would require lower gears, 4.11-33's...4.56-35's...and that's AT LEAST.....some would say 4.56-33's and 4.88-35's.........but anyway this is just MY opinion

SO you are saying dont worry about tire size if you got the axles and gears to back it up? Well I got that I think. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hee.gif I was just wonder how big of tire it takes to make the trails not as fun anymore. And if I go much bigger will Tom ride with me still. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Or would I just be an out cast to the group. No everybody knows Tom invites everybody to join. But lets here what you think about over kill on tire size for most riding in turkey bay. I will try and go to east kentucky some this summer too.

For TB I really think 35's would be the max. I really dont think anything over 4 inches and 33's look good on a jeep anyways.

35s still give you a challenge at tb i rode with a guy there with 37s and he had no challenges just rode thru everything not that its a bad thing i liked the look of 37s on his

Width of the tire/axle/wheel combo will also play a role - especially in wooded areas like Turkey Bay.

So are 38's to big? I am running full width now so looking for tires.

Let's see some pics of those fullwidth's Black. I am soon going to 1 ton's, D60 front and D70-80 rear. How much lift are you running? Do you plan on running anything like major rocks and such. That will all have something to do with it too. If you have 8" of total lift then a 37-38 is the biggest I would go.

You have 11 inches of lift on a TJ and 38's and full widths. **** is that thing tippy or what???? I would take about 3 inches out and get everyones best friend the sawzall on the case.
bigblacktj
06-08-2005, 07:55 PM
Its really not very tippy. alot of biging tippy is your suspenion unloading and I converted my rear to leafs and that keeps me from being as tippy I think. I enjoy being big.
For the question you are asking...35's is MAX,,,TB has some really tight places and you will have a time getting thru them. 35's are nice for alot of the "rock climbing" TB has and would be great for any deep mud you encounter. BUT anything over 35's will produce a tight fit in a lot of places.
BUT on the otehr hand, a Jeep with 38's and full width axles would be cool!!!!

So you are running a TJ with leaves in the back. I am guessing spring over? Are you still running the coils in front?? What is the WMS ov the axles you have? I am asking all these questions because I am curious about your set-up.

Same here Scrambled. I read a big article about this guy that kept lifting a tire when he was on off-camber stuff and he decided to convert the entire suspension to leaf. Cured his problem right up.

Well I like leafs because they are simple and CHEAP. I got a buddy who is running spring over front with 3/4 buggy springs in the back with a 3 link. Man does that thing bend up. 40in Swampers ans he can do burn outs on dry pavement with no wrap at all.

Axles are 67in wide or something like that. Think I might put them on about 40in swampers. Running front suspenion like clayton offroad but running 43in long arms. Skyjacker coils in front. Rubicon reverse wrap springs in rear. Run 5.38 gears and detriots front and rear. It is tall But very wide also and that makes up for alot. I will post picture whenever I get my cam working again and have time.

What are you doing for steering. Hydro. or Hydro assist???**** that thing ought to be a beast.
bigblacktj
06-08-2005, 10:45 PM
Right now I am puting hi-steer on it and plan to go to a hydro assist so it is still street legal and you have a feel for steering wheel.

Yeah Hydro gets scary on the road. I hear the trick is to run the tires down around 3-4 psi.

The good thing about hydro asssist is that if your hydro goes out you still have a back up.

Check out Stu Olson's site www.stu-offroad.com. (http://www.stu-offroad.com.) He did some brake performance, I THINK it was hydro-assist.

After you install those, Dogleg will be a no go, but doing Butt Pucker Gully won't be an issue. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tu.gif
He won't be weaving thru 4 wheeler trails with us anymore either.....HE'LL BE GOING OVER THE TREES!

Why cant I do dog leg? I think I will be able to play in dog leg alittle. Maybe try out osme new trails to tell you guys about. If I got through fourwheeler trails when I come out the other side the 4-wheelers will have a Fourlane. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif
