after a long day saturday and sunday morning the 8.8 and 30 are in. the 8.8 was a little tricky i have to find e-brake cables from a zj with discs in the rear b/c i had drums and the cables wont work. only hold up i ran into was that i had to run new brake lines. not that big of a deal, but the guy at advanced auto gave me the wrong fittings, didnt realize till i got them on the axle which had been installed at this point, that the fittings were not strong enough, bold print on back of package says "do not use for brake lines". i guess this was sort of my fault, i didnt really read the package, but then again i would have thought the guy new what he was giving me to use, oh well. other than the brake lines the 8.8 install went smooth. the 8.8 is a beast, my buddy and i both had to get the 8.8 off the trailer to under my jeep, but i was able to lift the d35 by myself and put back on trailer. the d30 was heavier than the d35, pretty sad. the d30 went in easy, pretty much a direct swap, just have to find the right bolts to connect the drive shaft to the yoke on the new 30, my old 30 had bolts that screwed into the yoke, the new 30 yoke has no threads.

Chris, did you fab everything up on the 8.8 yourself? I'm about ready to start cleaning and cutting on a 8.8 myself. Just want to start getting it ready to install in my XJ in the next month or two. Got it out of a 94 Exploder, yes drum brakes but, for $25 you can't beat it lol. Anyhow, do you have any tips or suggestions? Any huge pains you can think of?

jeremy - i haven't gotten to drive it enough to really get a good idea about if i like em or not. i'm drive'n to nashville tommarow, so i'll probably know a little more then, plus after this weekend at LBL, i'll know how they are off road and if you go to LBL too you can see for yourself!(hint, hint, haha)

bshaw - no i got it already done, the fella who had it before me already had the brackets done. i dont have access to the tools and shop or even a garage (have an apartment) necessary right now to do all the fab work. there's plenty of info out there about 8.8 in xj's and zj's, i think naxja.com has good info, nagca.com or mallcrawlin.com both have write up's about 8.8's. my biggest head ache was brake lines, make sure you have the right tools, and fittings everything should go smooth.
