Hmmm, All of a sudden my airbag light came on, and it will not go off. I reset the battery. Then tried to reset the computer. then checked the fuses... Anyone have another idea... Its really starting to drive me nuts...

Put a piece of electrical tape over it. ;) The light, I mean. :D
Seems like you have covered the easy stuff. From my understanding, the sensors are mounted on the frame rails of a TJ. Where exactly is the question, Iwould look at a FSM to see if it shows locations, then look for a pulled wire. I guess it is possible that you damaged a sensor... When did it first come on? How long has it been acting up? I got my dash wet one time and had all kinds of lights on for a few days, then all was well after that.

It came on about a week ago... after a short wheeling session. Ill have to try to look for the sensors on the rails... Thanks!

Have you pulled your glove box down anytime lately? Behind it, on top of the fuse block are the two fuses that go to the airbags. Check them and make sure one is not blown.

i have a question if i want to disable mine and pull those fuses will it cause a code to be thrown cause when i go wheeling and take my grandson ( 2 yrs old) i don't want the airbag to fire and hurt him but if it makes a code pop then i can't pass emmissions ( the middle tennessee rip off society) cause they will fail a 96 and up vehicle even if the fault code has nothing to do with emmissions

I think when you reinstall them the light will go back out.

Typically, it is NOT recommended to disable the air bags on a TJ as the sensors are mounted to the frame rails and are extremely hard to set off. If your Grandson is only in your Jeep off road, I'm not sure that I would disconnect the air bags. If you are talking about disabling the air bags for good, both road use and off road, I think you would be better off paying to have a switch installed as on pavement, both you and your adult passengers will want the safety of those airbags.
If you want to pull the fuse, or to replace it (for off road with Grandson), you probably want to disconnect the battery, wait 3 minutes, then work to do whatever as it takes a couple minutes of battery being disconnected to deactivate the air bag system. The last thing you would want is for an air bag to go off in your face while you were messing with a fuse.

Isn't there a switch on the console to turn off the passenger airbag?
Isn't there a switch on the console to turn off the passenger airbag?
The passengerside cut off switch was introduced in the 1999 model year. However, I don't think all Jeeps had the switch as standard equipment.

My 04 doesn't have a turn off switch.
My 04 doesn't have a turn off switch.
Correct...... Not all Jeeps have them. I guess it was an option. Others say only Jeeps without a standard rear seat automatically had them.... I haven't found much information on this issue.

Dont know if its the same or not! But i had an Explorer that did the same thing! It was a bad connector under the drivers seat! looked a lot like the connector that is under the jeeps front seats! Either way I would disconnect the battery while workin on it!

ha, yeah i was fixing to say that the light means it's time to put a piece of tape over the light and forget that your jeep came with airbags...

The sensors are normally attached to the frame rails, and then there is a "center" sensor either under the console or under the seat. Make sure the frame sensor wires are not damaged.
It could be the clockspring under the steering wheel.
Good luck.

Weird question, but does your horn work? Reason I ask is I thought I read somewhere that if your horn quits and the Airbag light won't go off it could be your clock spring in the steering column. TJ's are prone to bad clock springs.

For those of us unfimaliar with this...
What is a clock spring? What is its purpose? Why do they break and what does it cost to fix?
Gimmie info people!!! :D

It is a flat electrical ribbon wound like a clock spring beneath your steering wheel. Its' purpose it to wind/unwind as you turn the wheel and still stay connected at both ends thereby letting you use your turn signals and horn through this "clockspring"
