/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Just wondering how many other jeep owners go through the cracked or chipped windshield thing ? I have 2,500 miles on my 05 Unlimited rubi and this is window #3 for the front /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/furious.gif.I have had cars for 15 years and never replaced any glass .But this one i have had 3 months and 3 windshields . /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gifMy insurance guy does not have a problem w/ it so i guess thats a good thing .
???AM I THE ONLY ONE GOIN THROUGH THIS ?
I know the design is a perfect cathers mitt for bugs and now rocks ,front glass being flat n all .
Maybe i should run a NASCAR tear off /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tu.gif

I don't even have a Wrangler, and I'm experiencing this problem. Rock chips everywhere, and one that's so bad I'm watching it daily. I blame the state of Kentucky for that one... that's where I got it from. I know it has to do with the upright position and shortness of the windshield. Mine isn't cracked though, however, if it were any more vertical than it is now, I'd probably have some WORSE chips or maybe a crack.

Or it could be stressed? I've heard many stories about that lately. Must be those dang robots. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/brows.gif

3 windsheilds in 3 months is a lot. I assume that you are not not a bouncer at a bar, or that there is any "known reason" for all these windsheilds. Two suggestions, 1)install an air deflector on the front of your hood (you know that little plastic thing that is smoke colored).
2) Next time windsheild is out, have the channel inspected very closely. Sometimes a weld, or another problem is minor enough it doesn't send up a red flag, yet it puts just enough stress on glass, it you can crack windsheild just by looking at it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm on my 2nd Wrangler, with 15,000 miles and never had this problem. Sorry to hear about it man, hope you find the cause... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Don ,Nope ,i stopped bouncin at bars and doin security work about 8 years ago .
I doubt its a defect in the channel i checked it the last 2 times .
First glass i think was cracked upon delivery
Second was a stone chip from a cement truck
And this latest one was a bunch of globs of mud and rocks from another constuction truck "wife was driving " .
I guess they called it right when they named it "IMPACT ORANGE " /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I went thru 3 on my 01 tj in 3.5 years--Michigan roads are great! So far the 04 is holding up-but looks sand blasted

I've got a crack in mine, I'm kinda sentimental to it; not gonna fix it. If I do it will just crack again.

I am the same way. It costs me $100 each time I want to replace the windshield (which isn't a lot, but when you are a poor college student and spending most of your money on add ons a new windshield just isn't in the budget!) and I am never around long enough for the window guy to come repair the chips. So I use a little clear nail polish, which SHOULD keep the crack or chip from getting bigger and wait until inspection time comes around.

If you are driving on the big highways with the big trucks, cracks in these windshields are inevitable. I have a $100.00 deductable for glass on my insurance so I just let it go until inspection time comes around and see if I can get away with it or just replace it then. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/animxj.gif
