I love the ****ty handling and the bad brakes and having a hard time starting in the morning. I love the way bias ply Swampers sound and feel going down the road. I love going around corners with tires chipin and lockers poppin. I love gettin caught in the rain with no top or doors. I love all the little kids that look and wave at the Jeep and then tell there parents that that's what they want when they grow up. this is just a few things out of many for me. So Why do ya'll do this whole Jeep thing.

You pretty much summed it up right there Rod. I don't get to hear a locker poppin yet or have the roar of Swampers, but everything else sounds just about right. Just a few years ago I was one of those little kids seeing Jeeps and wishing I'd have one when I grew up. Now I'm a bigger kid that is lucky enough to drive a Jeep. For me there is definately a sense of pride in owning a Jeep. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tu.gif
My Jeep was parked in a parking lot last night, when I noticed several men who must be in thier 70's were standing at my doorless Jeep checking it out. There is something about a Jeep that brings a warm fuzzy feeling to people, young, and old.

They're just plain fun....I have a nice feeling of freedom when I'm driving my Jeep...and, man, they just look plain cool with the top down and the doors off! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif

OK, let's see... why are Wranglers so cool?
For one thing, they have remained basically unchanged for over 60 years. Sure, there have been some technological upgrades and some slight cosmetic changes, but today's Jeeps are readily identifiable as the same vehicle that was first produced in 1941. In today's world where everything changes, it's nice to have something that has stayed the same.
Another reason that Jeeps are cool is their simplicity. They don't have all the fancy bells, whistles, and doo dads that other vehicles have. In our society, everything, it seems, has to be complicated. The simplicity of a Jeep is a breath of fresh air.
Being able to go just about anywhere, instead of just where the pavement takes you is a major factor in the satisfaction of owning a Jeep. Even people who don't go offroad are aware, to some extent at least, of their Jeep's capabilities.
Spending several thousand dollars on a totally impractical vehicle is another part of the "Jeep Thing." There is only one reason for buying a Jeep for 99% of the Jeep owners: FUN!
Driving a topless and doorless Jeep on a beautiful day is just about the ultimate!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeehawwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Tom on saying "It's a Jeep Thing" truly applies to the fact that we put TONS of money into our jeeps that were perfectly fine before hand, and after this some of us recieve damage, then we just say "Oh well It happens".
But for me it is the ultimate high to drive topless and doorless on a SUNNY day. The noise and wind is all part of the high.
The ability to go where people say we can't is really fun too!
I guess all I can say is "Its a Jeep thing........EVEN WE DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!"

My CJ brings back those summer days as a kid in my dad's and it's the only 4x4 convertible.

For some reason, I keep hearing, "these are a few of my favorite things" being sung by Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music when I read this thread...
Jeepers on boulders
And CJ's get older
RA with Tomster
Gettin smashed by a youngster
Oversize MT's
On worn beaten wheels
These are a few of my favorite things...
When the Jeep drops
Hear the skids grind
When I'm spinning wheels
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel... sooo bad
AGAIN
Doors off and topless
On sunny, warm days
Seeing the lake shore
from Ol Silo Hill
Gator Pit's muddy
and someone is stuck
These are a few of my favorite things....
Okay, time to go to work! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif (must be the tie I'm wearin today)

The JEEP thing was clear to me the first time i rode in one , and more so when i had my own . Now this being # 3 I can sum it up just a bit . W/ the scrambler , commando , now the unlimited , you get a lil truck ,3 tops mean you get more than a convertable ,add a hitch and you can tow your toys or trailer for work ,lock it in and insta 4X4 that is extreamly capable ,What other car truck or SUV has a fold down windshield .Yeah sure the landcruiser and old broncos , try and find a nice one .
This wrangler cj tj yj etc line always reminded me of those transformer toys ,a vehicle that turns into something else and can change back .
One of best grin makers was when i pulled an H2 outta the sand ,the guy said he had over 100K in his rig .
And yeah it is a jeep thing , and i really don't care to understand it , just enjoy it .where else can ya say i love to drive topless .Now if only more gals would do that !

It's pullin' out the new Rav4 from a snow bank. (Owner showing off for the family with him.) Thinking to yourself not all people make the right choices in life and you can't buy common sense. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Paul, you're lyrics go much better with Mack the Knife! Anyway its about feeing the cool air from the a/c, knowing that if it rains or snows, that steel roof in that Xj, Kj, Zj or Wj will keep you cozy.More importantly, its the friendships that evolve with other owners no matter what style they choose. And maybe its the sense of freedom we all get going down the trail. Heavens knows there's not much of that in our daily lives.
