What rear axle does a '91 Exploder have under it??? I work with a guy that has this vehicle for sale. It has 250k miles on it (yep, that's right) and he wants $500 for it.

Jimbo, what else could you canabalize from that thing? If it's just the rear axle, you could get one for less than $500 from all that I have read.

all sploders have the 8.8 but is could be a 27 spline or a 31, could have the LS or not, and might have disk brakes or not.

I researched 8.8's a little and was told that you want a post 96 model, because it has thicker axles and disc brakes for sure. Also the price is too high, IMO.

I found out a little more about it today. It has 4.11 gears in it with a LS in the rear. It is a 2 door 4x4 with the 5-speed manual and the 4.0L V-6.
I'm not interested in it for myself. I just thought somebody here might be.
Not a good deal at all, mine was 300 with disc and about 80 k on it.

So between a Ford 8.8" (minus the disc brake option) would you all say that is better than the Super35 kit? What about price wise if you need a shop to do the install of both? I don't have the tools or the know-how to do an axle swap/install but want a stronger rear end.

I tell ya what. The Super 35 might be cheaper if you found someone willing to sale you one cheap (hint hint). Including 4.10 gears and a set for the front. The 8.8 will cost you about $2-300 plus bracketry if you have a TJ ($274). If you are running a YJ then it is way cheaper. As far as strength the 8.8 has 31 spline shafts and the super35 is 30 spline. But you get a detroit locker with the super35. Best you will get in the 8.8 is a LS unless you buy something else. I would about bet you will spend at least $2000 on an 8.8 if someone has to put it in for ya. If you bought my super 35 then all you would need to buy is the master install kit for the r&p and the axle sealsand bearings (per diff). If you geared up to the 4.10's. But then again you may already have the 4.10's.
