View Full Version : My very first Post.... Newb Style

OK, so maybe I am not a newb. Maybe I have been around this board since it first started. Gill and I got to be friends because of this board back in my pharmaceutical rep days. After starting a little shop called Blue Torch FabWorks in Dothan, AL Gill would drop by from time to time to see what was going on. Gill was a great guy and will be missed.

Some of you may have heard the news about my selling Blue Torch Fab and moving back home to be close to family. If not on September 21, 2009 I sold BTF, packed my bags, and moved home to Dothan. It was a good move for my family and I. Maybe now I will actually be able to get out and have some fun wheeling. I have not had my own trail rig in 4-5 years. I have been way too busy building them for everyone else.

I took a few weeks to step back before coming back here to post and a few other boards as well. I needed a break from it all. I am back on the board now. If you guys every have any tech questions you want to ask me be sure to ask. I am back here because I like the board. There are a great group of people here.

Now that I am back in Dothan I have transitioned a little. In the sale of BTF I kept all of my large format digital printing equipment. I will be printing vehicle wraps, full color banners, full color stickers, and more. I am also putting my web design skills to work. Check me out sometime if you want. www.509.media.com

I want to say thanks to everyone here on the board. Without great people in the offroad community I would never have been able to turn my dreams of an offroad shop into Blue Torch FabWorks. Along the way I made some really good friends. Thanks guys. Now it is time for the next chapter in my life.

Congrats on the change, Dan! Choosing famly over work can be a tough decision but one of the most satisfying!

I'd be interested in learning about wraps and possibly wrapping my TJ a design of some type....

Look forward to swing what you build for your family and your trail riding!

Welcome back!

Thanks guys. It was hard to walk away from something I had worked so hard to get. I found myself in a place where I was not having fun. I always said I would walk away if I stopped loving it.

No I need to get to work building a rig for myself. I have not decided what I want to build. It will have tires and some tube. Just need to figure out the details. LOL

I think the first project at home is going to be building a go-cart for my son. He has been asking. Might be a fun project to work on together.

Dan

Just make an additional go cart "Adult size", 4wd, and you are good to go :)

LOL my son is 8. I am thinking his go-cart will not be much of a go-cart. Zuk axles and a 4cyl car engine should do the trick. I am going to give it a little more time before I get back out the shop. If know me this little project will turn into a full on race machine. Wonder if he can drive in KOH at 9 years old. LOL

I think the success in my leaving is realizing I needed to be with my wife and kids more before they leave me. It has been a huge adjustment for me but things are going well. I just need to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. LOL :D

That choice of work vs home is not always easy. I see WAY too many people here at work that are here when I get here (6:45) and stay long after I leave at 4:00.

I've learned long ago that a job is just a job, and when you leave this earth, nobody will care what you did for a living, but how you lived your life as a husband, father, mother, wife, brother, sister, etc. Family is all you have left when you leave, so never take them for granted.

I'm really happy to see you made that choice and know you'll keep a good perspective on things. Work to live, not live to work and you'll find yourself rich in so many ways - ways that you can't put a price or value on.

And who says you have to grow up? May we always have that inner child that gets to come out and play!

You're commended for realizing family is important and I understand the adjustment. I slowed down my golf business several years ago and it has helped the family life. Besides who said you need to grow up? Just look at my handle!!!!

Dan, welcome back. I will never forget your help and generosity toward veterans. It was very nice thing you did for the veteran who had his Jeep trashed.

All the best,

I built a chassis for one of those about 7-8 years ago. I put the project to the side because I thought I would kill myself. I like to go fast way too much. LOL If I built my kid one he would not be able to reach the steering wheel or pedal, but I could. LOL

Thanks man... I have a lot of respect for those who serve. If something else comes up where I can help I am down for it. I think it is what those of us who don't serve should do.
