Let me just remind everyone what a madhouse Turkey Bay will be over Memorial Day weekend. They will not allow camping most likely at TB. The last two years they have made it a day use only facility for Memorial Day weekend.
They actually have turned people away at the gate the last couple years, because they felt like they had all the vehicles they could handle. I think as long as you get there in the AM, you will be able to get in. It was in the afternoons, I believe, when they were turning people away.
I'll probably go, but, Lordy, it will be a mess. There will be four wheelers and dirt bikes galore.

Why not try some other place, like Paddy's Bluff or Wheelin in the Country? They will more than likely be a whole lot less crowded. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tu.gif
didn't think about the crowd. How about June 4th weekend?
I'm moving my trip up a week to 5/20

I'll be there with the family on Memorial weekend. Looks like we may come down Thursday night or very early Friday morning.
I plan on wheelin first thing Saturday and if all goes well Sunday too.
Yeah I know it's probably going to be crowded but it's an 7-8 hour trip down there and Memorial weekend works best for my crazy schedule.
Plus this is my second chance to run sit up and beg. Hopefully this time I won't need MikeA's tow strap.

DavidC...I made the mistake ONCE of going the first big warm holiday of the season, and never again. You could walk across the campers and trucks end to end in the field in front of the guard shack and never touch ground. I believe this was the weekend that Tom refered to by the NFS shutting it down. There were vehicles lined up on the blacktop waiting to get in, with the gate closed. As someone would leave, someone would get in. Hopefully though with the opening of Pattys Bluff, it will aleviate some traffic.

David:
I have put in for vacation the week leading up to Memorial Day weekend, so I could probably wheel with you on Friday, if you get here Thursday night.

Actually, Paddy's Bluff has been open for awhile, and I have been there about 3 or four times. Unfortunately, a guy on a four wheeler died while he was out there about 4 weeks ago, so I dunno what is happening as far as being open. It is a great place to go, and the terrain is simalar to TB's, but can change widely depending on the weather conditions.

I know its been open for a while, I was just hoping overall it would eliminate some atv traffic at TB. From what I heard a rider went up a hill on ATV, no helmet, atv flipped over backwards and on top of driver. The web site is still up so I can only assume that the place is still open.

Yeah, it more than likely is still open to the public. Now two months ago(last time i went) they were talking about shutting the place down. Im sure insurance is as expensive as **** there bc they dont even have any rules about helmets or seatbelts.

It looks like we'll probably end up leaving very early Friday, 3:00am, as Toni has a conference on Thursday that she wants to attend. This would mean that we wouldn't arrive until around 11:00am or so.
So wheelin Friday would be out. Oh well...Looks like I'll pick up my OHV pass on Friday and hit the Planetarium to sleep... I mean see some show's with the family.
David
I called TB and they say there is "NO CAMPING" from the 25th thru the entire weekened. This sucks. Is wheelin in the country crowded this weekened???Do they allow camping ?

Yes, Wheelin' in the Country allows camping.
Memorial Day info (http://www.wheelininthecountry.com/mem_day_2005.html)
Thanks for the info mike.I'd like to go check that place out but really can't afford it right now.I guess I'll pitch camp in my backyard.I'll be out there "early" friday and saturday.Who else is going??
The more I think about the crowds at TB now the less I want to go.I'm thinking of getting a "backcountry camping permit"(think thats what it's called)and just going all over the backwoods around lbl and explore and set up camp in the late afternoon when a spot looks good.Would anybody be interested in doing this??
Well looks like friday and saturday for TB.I'll be out there very early each day.Who else is coming?

Maybe Friday, definately Saturday.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Unless something changes between now and Saturday morning, the Wife and I will be at TB on Saturday. I have also invited Don Buckler and his Wife Pam to join us. Don has never been Jeep-n and has an almost stock TJ. We are going to make this a one day trip, so it will be a l-o-n-g day for us. I can't wait /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif

Anyone wheeling on Monday?
Teddy and I are thinking about going then.
He's got 2 guys that want to check out Turkey Bay for the first time.
I will be wheel-n on Saturday, only. However, I _might_ have a guy who would like to hook up and wheel and Sunday and/or Monday, IF anyone will be wheel-n on these days. Would you guys mind if a newbie wheeled with ya?

Nope ...
One of the guys that is coming with Teddy is a newbie.
Should we start a Monday thread so we don't mess with Friday/Saturday ride?

Mike:
This sure is confusing, ain't it?
Think I will start a thread and include lists for Friday, one for Saturday, one for Sunday, and one for Monday.

Hey Guys, Vicki and I have decided to come down on Sunday, not Saturday. Last time I looked at the list, it appeared that most making the Saturday run will be there on Sunday as well.

I am sorry Fred, I didn't see your message. This Web site hasn't been right at my end of the wires for a while. Vicki and I will be at TB only on Sunday,,,, plans are to come down, wheel, go home. I sent you a PM about a tire and wheel that I think will go with your trailer, did you receive it? Like I said, things aren't working as they should at my end of wires, so I might be the problem.
