View Full Version : Admin/Moderator Request-- Member Jeep Section

Hey guys,
Why don't we create a new section; one that is not open for posting or discussion; but one that just shows each members Rig with a pic or two; and then the specs of their rig.
We could come up with a general format for each one; then let members submit a pic or two and a spec-sheet; then turn it into a post.
It would be cool for us to be able to have a 'showcase' of member rigs like alot of the other Jeep Forums do.
I would be glad to help-out in creating and maintaining it (since I brought it up) so as to not put undue burden on anyone else; if that is OK. Not sure how the details of this forum/bbs works; but if you could grant me rights to a particular section to do modifications; I can set it up; and then update it as people send in requests.
Just let me know. I can do HTML fairly handily; so it shouldn't be too difficult to pull off.
I was thinking of a template asking things like the one below (scroll down...not sure why it embedded a page-break):
EDIT NOTE: I tried to edit the table to show a personal pic like Tom suggested; but for some reason; after saving the edit; it wouldn't re-render the html...so I will repost the table again below in a new post....
I think it would be cool if we could have a section like this for all member rigs... What do yall think?

Hey, we could have a spot for a pic of the member as well as for their Jeep.
We could call it the "Jeeps and Peeps" section.

A little off-topic, however I must say... I don't think I'll be messing with Dave Taylor much. He'll kick my butt, lol.
I'm all for it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The idea is nice, but keep in mind those users who have a resolution limitation. Say perhaps make it fit in 800x600 frame w/o having to scroll.

That was just a proto-type guys; not a finished deal....gotta get the bosses to buy off on it first...then we can fine-tune it down.
p.s.
Paul, what style?
I am a sandan in Japanese Wado Ryu Karate...been doing it for 12 years now.

I like it! It's a good source for mod information. For example, if I wanted to do an 8.8 swap, I could PM Dave about it after reviewing his profile.

I vote yes.
I would say make its own little forum section and everybody just make up a new thread for their Jeep. Sound ok?

Theoretically, that's all that's required, unless Gill wants to do something different.

I'd think that you wouldn't want it as a forum b/c then you'll get people trying to post to everyone's thread about their Jeep.
I think it should be a seperate section with possibly a member listing with a pic of their rig.
Each name would then be a link to that person's jeep specs.
We could call the section
"Member's Rigs" or
"ItsaJeep's Rigs" or
"Roll Call" or .....

The product review section has as a similar format. I wonder if we could use the software for the product reviews and either copy or modify it in such a way to have different categories. That way it would be searchable for say: 8.8 or winch or whatever.
Having a table format on a site like this usually means a database is involved. Having a database means either buying new software (we do NOT want to have any expenses here for that) or using what we have. In earlier incarnations of this site, we had products that were reviewed, but it is empty now. If we want to do it and try to use that software, now would be a good time to do it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Marlon, catch me on IM later.

It wouldn't be that difficult folks....That's why I suggested it; and presented a sample table format we could work from.
All it would require is having someone make new additions and maintain the listings..(I volunteered to do that); and then whenever someone wanted to submit a new entry; or change an existing one; they would email the moderator of that forum...and that moderator would edit the html table and update the changes.
From a general population perspective; it would be a read-only forum; but changes to it would go through the person maintaining it; and updating the html templates.
This would keep us from having to buy any 3rd party software or require any money.
It would take a few days to get the first batch setup; because there will probably be a few dozen folks who want to get in their initially; but after that; it would only be occassionally updated.
Perhaps we could even set a minium posts requirement to be listed; say 100 or 200 or something; so that only active members are listed; not anyjoe who drops by.
Just some ideas.

Ok folks I will create the forum, as suggested by Tom "jeeps and peeps" sounds good to me.

I agree again, because we have over 500 "members" on ITSAJEEP, but probably less than 100 "Actively" using the sight. I don't know maybe a minum ammount of posts, or some item we can "track" to determin they are active. It's kind of silly when you consider some people probable signed up and NEVER posted a thing!
In fact while we are on that is there a way to "Purge" the page? People who have never posted, in a reasonable ammount of time, be deleted, and something I noticed the other day I looked in the For sale and there are items that were listed in 2004. Are you telling me this stuff is still for sale? WOW!
Well just me ranting, I like the Idea of a section for our rigs!
[/ QUOTE ]
Eww.... Purging... no. I hate purging. Highly against any forum purging whether it be users or posts. But I don't own the site so....
