Hey,

My wrangler has a 2.5L engine, and on the expressway when I take it above 70, it starts to vibrate pretty rigorously (everything in my rearview mirror becomes a blob). So far I've just been turning up the radio and disregarding it, but is there a cheap fix for this that doesn't involve swapping the engine to a 6cyl? Thanks.

Vic:

How do you know that it has anything to do with the engine? Are you sure you don't just have a tire out of balance? It could be drivetrain vibration, like a U-joint going out on you, couldn't it?

Well I just assumed it was the engine because I had read about people having issues with 2.5L and > 65mph (I did a ton of research before buying); I've read that a lot of 2.5L engines vibrate. It was suggested to me by a friend that a tire might be out of line, but I won't know until I take it to my jeep mechanic sometime this week.

Vic:

Man, 70 MPH is about as fast as you want to drive a Jeep anyway. They just don't have the braking or the handling stability to drive them any faster than that. Besides, with their lack of aerodynamics, Jeeps really suck the gas at high speeds.

heheheh

I'm thinking wheel out of balance. Do you offroad it? You might have mud in the wheels too causing additional imbalance.

My 2.5L is rather smooth at 70-75.

70 mph, that is a speed i havent seen for a while. (Just Kidding)

It could be a motor mount as they are prone to breaking. Also, what tom said, it could be a tire outta balance(pretty likely) or it could be a U-joint going out on ya.

I've had it up to 90 and ran from evansville to Hoptown doing 80 - 85. And it vibrates enough to make you think your in a cheep motel bed.

This must be strictly a 4 cyl issue. My 6 goes 75-80 all day long. Only shake I have is from a bent wheel

The 6 is generally considered the more balanced of the two engines. The 4 has more vibes. That is why people with 4cyl's and MML's tend to have more issues.

Maybe the mice were tripping in the running wheel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eusa_doh.gif

The 2.5L is vibrating at 70MPH because the hamsters are pissed off and giving it their all. Be nice to the little guys...they work hard.

Mine will do 70mph but that thing shakes. I didnt even know a 2.5L would do 70mph. I thought they about toped out at 65mph.
