Well, I finally got pics of my homemade trunk.
My goal was to make something fairly easily that could be easily removed when I want to remove it, provided some measure of security for the few things I keep in the Jeep, and give me something I could put stuff on when travelling. I also wanted it to be able to provide a 'shelf' for my upper windows when I take them off.
I provided a spot for the soft top bows to rest so I COULD run it with the soft top attached and down but with the back seat out.
What do y'all think?

wow paul looks good. You beat me to this post because i made a "trunk" for my jeep over the weekend. Yours is really nice though. Mine is just a piece of wood i cut out and fit to lay like yours, over the wheel wells. Then i painted it black so it would blend in with my bed liner floor. Not quite as safe as yours looks like but it does help a little. I'll try to post a pic.

Kevin, even if you just did a board across the top, you could reinforce it and use the existing seating brackets to reinforce it. Even if you leave off the front panel, getting back there will take some work, let alone get anything out.
It's all about time to get in, snatch and grab. Made it a bit harder to do.

what i did was bolt the bord of wood in. That way i can access my tools via behind the seats or opening the tailgate. I wanted to put a hing on it but because my rear window doesnt unzip that option was eliminated. I also put 2 2x4's going across the sheet of wood to reenforce it and also hold stuff that i can put on top of the sheet.

im gonna make mine open from both sides and from the front, because I got my "speakers" behind my rear seat.

Gumby, that's the cool thing about a project like this. EVERYBODY uses their jeep differently and the basic idea can be adapated to suit any jeeper's needs.
My speakers are over my head but and I needed the security/coverage. I have some stuff back there normally under the seat that is well hidden, but with the seat out, it was totally exposed.
Now I get to trace my stereo wiring to find my short in my speakers... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif oh well.
