Jason:
I don't know how many bikers we have at IAJ, but I hope you get some good replies.
I don't have a bike, but if I lived out there in Idaho where I used to work and where I have returned for vacation the last two years, I would DEFINITELY have one! You can just about bike all the way across the Idaho Panhandle on trails where the railroads used to run.
I took a ride on the Route of the Hiawatha bike trail while I was out there last year, and it was FANTASTIC! Check this out, Jason. If you ever get a chance, this is where you want to go.

Main thing is to have someone fit it to you. Is it a compact frame? Short or long TT? Is it measured from the BB to the TTT or to the TST? Makes a difference because many people have bought Trek on past sizing of their old bikes and they were too small because of the difference in measuring. I haven't looked at it yet, but if it is, what is it made out off? Alum, which kind? Triangulated Steel will give a softer ride w/o sacfrificing wvry much weight. And I am talking ounces here, not lbs. Bwt 105 and DuraAce there is a marked difference in price and a little in weight but if you are a rec rider it will not make that much difference. High Tech equates to light weight to high price and cost per gram for duraAce is not worth it. Both shift good but I will tell you DA is crisper. Personally I have DA on my Cannondale, 105 on my Surly LHT, and Campy Chorus on my Raleigh Team Pro which weighs in at 18.2 lbs (its a steel frame)with a Brooks leather seat. My MTB has XTR. As far as pedals, almost all come w/o because they are such a personal preference. As is the seat, I have never found a stock one that I liked.

:D By the last comment I take it you are a spinner then? or are you a pure power masher?
carbon fiber monostay will def help take the jolt out of the alum frame and you gotta love powerlinks for cleaning, Always hated to keep reriviting pins!
Sounds like a good group that has been put together. What pedals?

one word for ya: huffy:p
sounds like a good deal to me. at that price point, you are going to get a similar bike in any brand. I have a full carbon tri bike, but my roadie is full aluminum w/out the carbon stays. Jamis isn't the most popular frame in the world, but they are all so similar along the same price points. 105 is a good groupo and you can always upgrade to Ultegra/DuraAce without compatability issues.
I hate to say it, but my bike habit costs more than my Jeep habit! LOL

I just purchased a new '08 KHS Flite 900 a couple of weeks ago. It is full carbon frame and comes with the SRAM Rival stuff. I can't really comment on the SRAM performance compared to the ultegra. From what I've read, the 105 should do fine. It's great exercise. I'm just getting into the road biking and loving it so far. Maybe it'll get better as I get in better shape, but I think I should've gotten the compact gearset. Any direction I ride from my house is a major hill into and back out of hollows.

I need to put some baseball cards on my spokes. Makes it faster. :)
...funny you say that, Paul. I raced on the mountain bike this past weekend and I've got a weird issue with my back wheel when I coast. It sounds exactly like a baseball card in the spokes. I kept telling people when I passed that it was a card! LOL
It didn't turn out so well, because the back wheel issue decided to throw me right over the handlebars onto my back and side. The wheel just locked up as I was coasting down a hill and I wasn't expecting it and just flew right on over. There was only about one mile left to go to!!! I was so mad that I almost threw my bike down the mountain side...if I didn't have to walk back to the transition! HA.
I definitely plan on a new mountain bike after this season is over. I'm looking to get the Felt carbon 29er hardtail...awesome looking bike.
