Ok three days ago my jeep was stalling and and flooding and would die and not start until it sat for an hour or so...so I diagnosed it as carburetor issue and promptly rebuilt it. well that worked well for two days (the idle was a little high) but it worked...this morning I was driving to work and out of no where the jeep just stalled driving down the hwy...had to get a tow and now it wont start at all its acting like its not getting spark...could my jeep have jumped time?

If it's not getting spark it is more than likely the control module. Could also be a coil.
Where are you located?

If you need help let us know.
I might have an old mod in my pile of left over parts.

That would be great, I will try anything at this point...spent a few hours this weekend trying to get running no fire yet...I keep thinking that I am overlooking something...has anyone tried one of those "CRT" HEIs on ebay? thanks...

Before you go throwing time and money at this thing, do you know for sure that it is not getting spark? Pull a plug wire and insert a plug then ground the plug and see if it sparks. Use insulated pliers on this.
Be sure the points, rotor contacts and plug wire contacts are clean.
If you don't get spark, take the coil and have it tested. Let's go simple first.

I checked the points, cap and rotor and grounded a plug...still no spark... the points were a little dirty but I cant imagine that caused it to just die so suddenly...I got a new coil yesterday, I will try that when I get home from work, eventually as money become available I will switch to TB fuel injection...that was the only reason I was asking about the HEI distributor...also is there a way to bypass the ICM?...I'll post an update tonight...

EFI is a waste of money in my opinion. Probably would be better off to swap a 4.0. Carbs aren't all that bad once you understand them.

4.0 MPI would be the way to go but your talking $$$ and a lot of work to do it, a chevy 4.3 TBI is a fairly easy swap and a much less expensive way to get a 4.2 to run like a champ no matter the weather. Although Kids88YJ has been having a lot of trouble with his TBI swap, but I think it may have something to do with where he got it (E-bay). Isn't that right Mike :)

my jeep has a 304 in it currently, I already had a TB and computer from a chevy 350 so I just figured I would put that to use...here's the link to the kit I am looking into,

I also bought some 3/4 chevy axles and a set of 38's! but all this has to wait till I come into so more $$...

Just an FYI- I had a CRT dizzy on my 4.2 and it worked great. It is a GM HEI dizzy with the lower gear to work with your 304. When/if I ever get around to installing my 304 into my 89 YJ I'll be going with a CRT HEI dizzy again.
