Whenever I'm in stop and go situations and using the brake pedal more the left front seems to be grabbing more than the other corners .It eventually overheats the pads(only the left front)After that it seems to keep holding and makes the vehicle act like its hesitating.Would replacing the caliper fix this?

Sounds like it would.

That seems the way to go Bob.I'd check the wear on both sides, and make sure the wear is very even. If not replace the pads. Btw, sometimes theres rust build up where the caliper slides. If so, clean it up, and give it a light coating of neverseize and put it back together. Have fun, take care.

Caliper!

Surprised no one mentioned mud? Could some be stuck in the brakes somewhere?

I'd think mud would maybe be the problem but it's been like this since I purchased the vehicle a year ago.(before I wheeled it)

You purchased a year ago? Any warrenty? If not I would say change calipers and pads on both front sides, Not very costly, like $30 for calipers and $20 range for pads, so you are looking at $100. If yoiu have the $$ and feel the need You could have the rotors turned or even buy new rotors then your entire front brakes are new!

I've noticed mine pulling as well, '04 WJ. But not holding or overheating. Calipers are under warranty if its new. I'm due for a pad change (**** that sounds bad) hoping that'll take care of it.

Fred,I replaced the pads one rotor and turned the other.(probably a mistake not to replace both rotors)But saved $10 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifThe driver side is showing some wear and the passenger shows none.Hmmm odd.Hey patrick I don't think that monster would fit the trails at TB.If you buy it for me though I'll drive it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif

Well I had a fishing line in my front driver's side break and knuckle. The hook was in between the rotor and the disk.

I dunno if the the lake caught me or if my Jeep decided to go fishing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did you check to see if the passenger side caliper is operating at all? If the driver side is doing all the work that could be the problem. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif

I figure with my lack of time to deal with it i'll just replace the rotors, calipers, and pads when these pads wear out.

I just had all four of my Disk rotors replaced because they were warpped on my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My mother sent me $400 and I got all them fixed for $350 YaY! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My wife had to have the front rotors turned on hers Friday. At 14k miles and the rotors are warped!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/furious.gif Most sad part about it all is that the dealership didn't want to fix it at first. Luckily the salesman that sold Janna the Jeep saw her and told her it would be taken care of. He knows I own two other Jeeps, so he's hoping to make future customers. He's already trying to sell me a silver Unlimited. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/36_12_6[1].gif Like I can afford that right after buying the Grand!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smashfreakB.gif

You mean they STILL ain't fixed the warped rotor problem on the Grands?????

Crap, that 99 I bought brand new had that problem, and so did just about everyone who owned them. The Grands were famous for warped rotors back then.

Amazing that they are still making them with defective rotors.

a friend of mine has a 2000 wrangler. His driverside front caliper stuck also. He bought a new caliper at advanced auto parts and we fixed it in the parking lot.
I agree with Fred, make sure your brake pad is not to worn out before install.

Jim, while you're having your wife's GC examined and fixed, see if the new style calipers were ever put on it. The TSB for it lists the new part numbers on wjjeeps.com. We sold our GC before I ever got to do it to ours. Would probably be an easy fix to drop the old calipers and put new ones on.

From what I have read the calipers wouldn't evacuate heat very well and would cause the warping.

I've changed my rotors 2x on my 03 Ram...warping they do.
