Just swapped out my old stock Dana 35 rear axle with a 31 spline Ford 8.8.
Also did the Rubicon Express SYE install.
Will post later; once I get my CV driveshaft in and am actually using the rear diff. (Now with a Detroit in it, and rear disc-brakes).
Dave, I want to hear every detail as I have been talking about doing the 8.8 swap as well... Did you do all the welding and everything? What type of SYE did you go with?
Details man... details....
BTW

Rainman:
CONGRATULATIONS! I know that is going to have to feel good when you are wheelin' and you know that the odds of breaking your axle are almost zero. Sure glad I had learned enough about Jeeps to order the Dana 44 when I placed the order for Thelma Jane.

OK....here are some of the pics; before and after the install of the Ford 8.8 half-ton axle.
I include pics of the axle; as well as the Rubicon Express SYE install; and a new set of Crown Vic Coils I upgraded to that gave me a net gain of 2.25 more inches. (Front now at 5" rear at 6")

Did you buy a brand new 8.8 or something?

The shafts, tubes, and 3rd member were out of a used Explorer.
The calipers, rotors, brakepads, brakelines, 4.11 gears, SYE, and detroit locker were all new.

Looks good man. I'm considering locating an 8.8" rear end as well....want to do it the same time I do the 3.5" RE lift, SYE & CV driveshaft along w/ 4.11 gears and ARBs. Gonna cost a perdy penny.

Talk to Wayne Hartwig at AllJeep.Com.
He is the one who gathered and built mine.
