i jus ran into this forum so i figured id go ahead and add somthin, lol. a year ago i bought my tj from a buddy of my dad's. only problems were fading paint on the hood, two good sized rust holes on my left fender, the top needed to replaced, and had a blown motor. but i bought the whole kit n' caboodle for 500 bucks, batman sticker on the bumper, 189,000 miles on the dash n all. bought another 2.5L for it a week later and had it put in. besides the fact that the guy told my dad and i that the motor ran perfect for 400 bucks and it had a nasty sounding piston slap wen we got it, the jeep was up and running and i was like a giddy little school on prom night

Hello Ryan, Welcome to It's a Jeep dot org and to the Jeep family. Don't forget to wave. :)
When you get ready to swap engines again, go with a 4.0L and AX-15 combo. The 2.5L get tired after about 120,000 miles. The 4.0L will last for 300,000 miles if you take care of them.
You will enjoy the people on this site. When you get an opportunity, wheel with people from here as you will be happy you did.
Have you found the K&I group in Louisville yet? http://www.kifourwheelers.com K&I is both a Web site and a large 4x4 group (100 members) based out of Louisville. I'm Little Jeep there.

If that is the case, I guess I should pick up an Ax-15 and 4.0 pretty soon... I have about 115k on my 2.5 and it is going stronger than it did when I bought it.

There are always exceptions to the rule. However, if you look at a 1,000 2.5L, you would agree that most start to get tired around the 120,000 mile mark... If I was going to spend $$ to replace a worn out 2.5L, it sure wouldn't be with another 2.5L,. :)

I hear ya. A wornout 2.5 would be the ONLY way I could justify going to 4.0. Fortunately, I have the upgraded D35 in back, so I wouldn't be too worried about upgrading the rear axle.
The harness, mounts, and tranny would be a fun project though. :) I just have no desire to undertake it anytime soon! :)

Welcome to IAJ
Yes on keeping the 4.10's, I just did a 4.0 & AW4 swap from a 96 XJ and a 23 spline TC from another YJ and the 4.10's are great with 33" tires. The 4 cyl 5 spd (AX-5) TC's have 21 spline and I think the 4 cyl automatics are 23 spline which will bolt to a 4.0L trans. like the AX-15.

ill check it out. im thinkin about jus goin ahead and buyin a crate motor 4.0L. i figure with the more miles ill get out of it it would be worth it in the long run. plus i kno where i can get a crate motor for 1500 right now. but would u all recommend if i want to stay with a manual transmission and my 4.10s? is that possible with a 4.0L swap?

Don't know why, but old motors always seem to run best, right before they give up the ghost  Any luck finding a 4.0? Might wanna consider a V8 swap
