Any "fixes" for exhaust leaks from the engine(i guess the manifold). When I say leak, I mean my rig is a little louder in the exhaust like a leaf caught in a wind tunnel on acceleration. Drives fine tho. I haven't physically located it yet tho. Not that worried about it, but want to fix someday. Anyone have this issue? 99XJ. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/animxj.gif

It is probably just the gasket. My gasket leaks at the manifolt and at the doughnut I intend on replacing the whole exaust eventually.

Bill, I don't know anything about the XJ's. However, cracked exhaust manifold is a common problem for Jeeps with the 4.0L. A cracked manifold is a cracked manifold, and about the only real fix, is replacement with an after market manifold. Some people try to weld them but that is a lot of work for a temporary fix.

Hi Bill, just turn up the radio untill you can replace the manifold with something else. If you want to find the leak, find a good length of tubing, doesnt matter steel copper, nothing that can melt, no need for large diameter, put it to your ear, and go around the exhaust ports, you'll hear it for sure!Have fun, take care

I have a cracked exhaust manifold on my 99 Wrangler TJ that has the 4.0L engine. A Banks header is in my garage waiting for me to install it.

As Don pointed out, if you have a 4.0L engine in your 99 it probably will crack right at the collector as many have. Jeep redesigned the manifolds in 2000 to fix this problem.

Good luck,

David
