Okay y'all, here's one for ya;
I was looking over this dynamat material and was considering covering the tub of my jeep with it (under the factory carpeting of course). Anyone done this before or used a similar product? I just want to see if it's worth all the time and, more importantly, money before I dive in.
Thanks y'all.

My plans are to have Thelma Jane Rhino-lined sometime. Would have done it last summer, but the TV went T/U, so I had to spend the money for a new TV instead of the Rhino-lining. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hipee is this a rhino line type of product, or just a rubber mat type of thing? Ed-ma-cate me, please /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
If it is just a rubber mat, I would be concerned about water, dirt, etc. getting under mat and causing rust issues.
Someday in the far, far future, I plan on having the "Little Jeep" Rhino lined. I suspect that it will only take me 80 years to get all the mods on my "Wish List" done..... hmmmmmmm, I'm 46 Y/O now,,, maybe I should speed things up a little /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hee.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hee.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hee.gif

Dynamat is used for sound deadening... most commonly used in doors and on rear decks of cars. I used some in my sub woofer enclosure. I don't think it would hurt to put it on the floor of your jeep for sound deadening, but given all the other sources of noise in a Jeep, would it be worth it? Dynamat is not cheap and as much as you would need, Line-X or Rhinolining would be more effective (thick stuff), AND give you waterproofing (make sure to clear the drain holes.

Hipee-
i'd go for line-x or Rhinolining, it should help deaden the noice and most inportanly give you jeep's tub waterprooffing. I put in DO-it-yourself bed liner in my jeep's tub, i didn;t put it on as thick as would a pro- at line-x or rhinoliners so i don't think it helps with noice , but with all of the rips in my top i don;t think anything on the floor would help me. But if you do go with lining your jeep, look at doing it yourself. IT was $500 cheeper and i got all the prtection and looks i wanted. Well acualy i fell in love with the stuff, 3- one gallon cans for the tub, 6 spray cans for the plastic fenders, wheel well, and wheels, functional, looks good, and should deaden noice levels if you put it on thick anough.

The Rhino lining stuff is also good to use on bumpers, tire carriers, rock rails, etc... gives them a nice textured look.
I also plan on doing the do it myself stuff inside my tub, probably after my next deploment. I am doing it to get rid of the carpet and add water proofing. I agree with all the noise most of our jeeps make anyway I don't see any sound deading benifits, maybe I am wrong. Something I am hoping for though is if I put it on thick enough I get the same insulation the carpet gives....I don't want my footsies getting too hot!

fred-
i put my do-it-yourself liner on and with out the carpet after a long ride if you touch the floor pans they are warm but nothing that would bother you. Plus i got cheep rubber floor mats for the front foot wells , mainly to make cleaning easier but they also help with heat insilation.

If you feel comfortable with a spray gun you can spray on the Herculiner. Ebay has 1 gallon packages for around $60-80. The undercoat spray-gun is about $6 at Northern Tool. All you need now is an air compressor. One gallon can spray the entire tub of your Jeep with somewhere between 3/16-1/4" of material. Rhino and Line-X will charge you huge amounts of money for spraying 1/4 thick. Oh and you can get Herculiner in black, gray, and RED. Hope this helps some. But you could have known all this to start with...LOL

I'm not too worried about waterproofing as they're aren't many water crossing around here. This is basically high desert. I was considering the dynamat simply for noise deadning. I was going to put it on (its a rubber type matting) the tub then re-apply my factory carpeting over top the matting. I was hoping w/ this and once I get a hardtop i'd get a much quieter ride at freeway speeds. But you're right Paul, it's not cheap. It'll run me about $120 for enough to cover the main sections of my tub.
I've also seen that roll on noise damping stuff but has anyone used it before? I don't know how well that would work.
