Well guys, I ordered my front locker today. It should be here tomorrow or Wednesday, and then Micah is going to help me install it. Hopefully, we'll remember to take some pics of the install process. It's a Powertrax Lock-Right for a Dana 30, $214.00 shipped. The mods are coming along slowly, a little at a time.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif

What is the difference between this locker and the OX locker?

Landon
03-23-2005, 09:09 PM
Well Don, I just don't know. In fact, I have yet to be educated on an Ox locker. But, a lot of the guys have recommended the Lock-Rite locker to me, so, based on that and the attractive pricing I went the Lock-Rite route. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tu.gif

Ox locker can be turned on/off. and it replaces the whole carrier.

Landon

Well then, there you have it....sounds like it would be better, but at a price, right?

So is the OX locker an air locker, or mechanical locker?

gmbtj

yes landon a HUGE price. Not to mention labor, cause of the extra work involved into putting in a mechanical locker in.

OX, ARB, and some Eatons are the three names that come to mind for "selectable" lockers. Selectable lockers can be turned on and off, so they can be "on" for wheelin' and "off" for the street. ARB's are pneumatically actuated (have to have a compressor), and the OX lockers are cable actuated. Not sure about the Eatons.

The disadvantage of selectable lockers is their cost compared to automatic lockers, especially the lunch box lockers like LockRights and EZ Lockers.

Eaton's E-locker is electronically actuated.

Between lockright and EZ, I've heard the Lockright has a better build quality... but that is just what I've heard. No personal experience. You running LR up front Tom?

Yeah, I've had my LockRight for a year now. It does a good job, and no problems so far.

Lockright here too in the front. Only complaint is the clicking you get while on pavement. On the trail it locks up good and hasn't let me down yet.

I have a EZ locker in mine. I have broken the stock shafts twice on both side and have not had any problems with the locker. I have the Evolution shafts form Superior now so the next time it will be the locker to go but I have had it for about four years now so I got my moneys worth.

I thought long and hard on the LockRite, EZ, full Detroit, ARB etc.

My jeep is my DD and I enjoy it's somewhat smooth and quiet ride around town so I don't want anything that is going to click, ratchet or otherwise make noise on-road. I also don't want anything that is going to force me to change the way I drive around town. So I've decided to go the selectable route w/ an ARB setup. Haven't got it yet, but will soon. Yes, it is more money than the automatic lockers on the market but I think it'll be worth it for my needs/desires.

Anyone know what type of lockers is on the new Rubicons? I heard the first year was air and then I heard they switched to an electronic type. Aren't those only available while in 4 Low? Or can you use them while in 4 High or even 2wd?

the first airs that Jeep used were like ARB's but were made in Japan from what I understand. I do not know about the possible electric ones. Not sure about the 2hi. would imagine they would work in 4hi. But not possitive.

The Rubi lockers require that you be in 4lo and that you be going less than 10mph to engage. There is a fairly common "hot-wiring" workaround that let's you engage the locker without these restrictions.

Yeah, I don't like restrictions....of any kind.
