Holy freaking crap ... I hate the freaking engineer that built this thing.

Axle is dropped as far as it can go
Exhaust at the manifold is disconnected and swings free (can't remove b/c everything from there back is welded together)
I need ~1" to get the pan past the transmission ... ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I've fubar'd my bolt on the SS trying to get it off to give a bit more clearance up front ..... freaking things been on there for 310K miles ... so I guess I should expect it to just pop off.

Last thing I can try is raising the engine up but I've got the jeep up on jack stands and I'll have to put a long block of wood between the motor and the jack in order to reach it. Scary ....

So ... anything else that I have tried yet ?

whooo hoooo ...

At the expense of the SS ... that gave the pan enough room to wiggle past the tranny ...

SWEEEET.

On to the rear main seal ....

I'm sure more adventure awaits ....

I love the way you responded to your own thread, Mike (LOL).

Glad that you got the oil pan off. Just remember, you have to get it back on sooner or later :)

Oh and while I am at it.........

Yeh .. dreading having to put it back together .. but can't worry about that now.

No pics will be taken. There is no way I'm dragging my camera down there with as oily and messy as this job is.

when I did my oil pan, I took off the whole skid plate and exhaust to make it easier...especially when you try to put the gasket up in there and then put the pan back up in there without letting the gasket fall. I haven't seen the underside of the ZJ, but I'm sure the exhaust is similar in the PITA sense.

I had to something similar with my wife's Jimmy (YEARS ago). I had to work her transmission pan around the exhaust and crossmembers. It sucked.

I came out from under her truck looking like I was from Jamaica - dredlocks and all! It was funny.

Skin, hair, clothes... all covered. I'm what you'd consider fair skinned with blonde hair too. It took a lot of REALLY dirty fluid to do that.

I hated that truck (maintenance-wise).
