View Full Version : Welding Q
This is for those smarter on welding then me which is about everyone. I just picked up my new rear bumper and it is a tubular bumper. The ends of the tube were left uncapped. To remedy this short term I sprayed a can of expandable foam in the 4 tube and when it dried I cleaned them up and capped them with JB Weld. I figure that will keep trash, mud and water out but I want to weld a end cap on them. Is it as simple as welding a piece of flat steel over it and then grinding it round or should I try to cut them round with a hole saw first, then weld them shut, then grind to make neat?
Do a search Fred, they sell caps and end plates for DOM and other tubing.

i woulc cut then weld. use a magnet to hold it in place inset in the tube then tack it. remove the magnet and fill in gaps, grind it smooth for a clean and neat look.

Well cut some sheet metal today and welded a cap on the ends. Ground them round and welded and gaps I found ground again the ran a bead of silacone to close any imperfections. I don't have pix but it wasn't anything spectacular. Not to bad for my first real welding job
