My Skid Row engine skid got here yesterday, and I installed it last night. It was a struggle, since I was working alone. Finally, I got my son to come out to the garage and work the jack to position the skid, and that helped a lot.

There was nothing complicated about the installation, and there is no reason for a write up or pics. It was just a ***** getting everything lined up.

For one thing, my T-case skid had been bent and pushed up in the middle until it was contacting the bottom of my tranny. There is supposed to be a gap there, and the Skid Row has a piece of channel that is supposed to catch the lip on the front edge of the T-case skid. I had to take a pry bar and bend my T-case skid back closer to its original configuration. I never did really get it back completely, since it would spring back to its bent shape when I stopped prying. So, I had a smaller gap to work with than I should have, making it tough to get that hook (channel) to slide in there.

Oh well, nothing is ever as simple as it is supposed to be, is it?

I am going to breathe a lot easier having some oil pan protection now.

Congrats Tom. An oil pan skid is on my list of mods as well. Where did you buy it from?

How thick is their plate? Where did the front mount? I've been looking at Rusty's skid for about $150 and it is 3/16" plate that mounts up front to the lca frame side mounts.

Mike:

There are three points of attachment.

That piece of channel that hooks over the lip on the forward edge of the T-case skid is one point.

You use your passenger side lower control arm bolt as a second point of attachment. Just remove the bolt and turn it around (if the threads are not already on the inside) and leave the nut off. The skid has a hole in it that the bolt will go through.

They give you an angle iron strut for the third attachment point. One end of the strut attaches to a bracket that they provide, and the bracket attaches to the drivers side motor mount. The other end of the strut attaches at the front of the skid on the drivers side.

The Skid Row plate is 3/16" and is powder coated black.

One nice thing about the Skid Row is that it will work on a Jeep with no lift or on one with a suspension lift, and no modification of the skid is needed.
