Neighbor has a 1994 YJ 4 cyl, 5 spd (AX-5) He has just put a new engine in the jeep, now trans has gone out. Will a AX-5 from a TJ work? What would be needed to swap? Possibaly a AX-15 swap. Just need to know parts needed. Any help grateful!!!! All he does with this jeep is ride to the store and thru pasture checking his cows.

Thanks,
Mike

So, since this is a 94, any trans 94 or newer should work, correct? What about the bellhousing?

you can always reuse yours but i was under the impression they were all the same from the time they were external slaves and newer

Yes, any AX-5 will work, any year. However, '93 and older, you will need to swap out the bellhousings. I have a '97 AX-5 in my '95 right now, it was a direct bolt-on.

If he is planning on keeping the jeep a long time I would look into installing an AX-15. Advanced Adapters makes an adapter for the install, you'll have to call them because I don't think they have it on there website. If I remember it was kind of pricy (sp?).

IMO: AX-5's are way to weak for a 4000 lb+ vehicle regardless of HP input and aren't worth the $$$ to rebuild them.
