OK I have a 93 XJ and I have an AX 15 trans that needs replacing. I have found a % Speed Manual trans out of a 91 but the Wrecking yard says it will not work. My ? is is there any Truth to this Will a 5 speed manual trans from a 91 not work in a 93?

If its the same tranny,with the same engine it should. To be on the safe side, call the dealer and ask. I'd be looking for something newer, or if what you have is repairable, that would be the best way to go. buying from Junkyards is a crap shoot.

Tried the Dealer they were no help they new nothing. I think it was City Salvage and Recycling in HopTown. but not positive. they are asking 300 with a 30 day warrentee. I am going to call a few shops on monday to see if they think it will fit. If they say yes I will get it.

I tried but there forum is down right now. I am hoping to go up to the salvage yard on monday to take a look at the trans. I will be able to tell then if it will work. I will pray it is the right one.

My bet is it will work if you take the bellhousing off your current tranny and put it on the new one. The only thing I can think of that might kink things is the output shaft. While doing my search for parts to do an engine swap, I've come across some late 80's to very early 90's that had 21 count splines. They weren't Peugots either, they were AX-15's. Then again, maybe the sellers didn't know what they had. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Check on jeepforum.com then go to the XJ site then check the tech stickys on the top of the page.

OK well I just checked for you and an AX-15 was used with all XJs with 4.0 motors. So with that being said if you find any XJ that is 90 or newer with a manual trans it should be a direct swap.

Ok and now I feel dumb because I realized this thread is about 2 and 1/2 years old and not even by a registered member.
