What everyones opinion I'm thinking about axles they will have to be used cause my pockets are not deep I was thinking of dana 44 or 60 what type of junk cars trucks or vans can have these axles and what years should Iook for and what prices should I expect any axles to avoid or look for more I know this is a lot of questions but I know this is the place to ask thanks

I would look for a 77 1/2-79 ford F250. They will have a HPD44 up front with lockouts and a full floating D60 out back, its common to find them with 4.10s too. The 78-79 ford F350s had front and rear D60s, front was HP too, but those are pricey. The late 70s F150s had a HPD44 up front and 9" in the back.
If I were doing it on a budget I would find a late 70s F250 HPD44 front and a 9" rear from an F150, then swap the nessasary parts from a F150 D44 to have the same 5x5 1/2 bolt pattern as the rear. The F250 D44 axle tubes are much stronger than the F150s and you dont have the cast wedges getting in the way from the radius arms of the F150.
Thats just me, Im a ford guy though. ;)

all it takes is deep pockets, go find a E350 with a dana 70 rear it should have 35 spline axles it doesn't get better than that unless it is free

I have the 44/60 combo from a 78 F250 and it is an easy and inexpensive as far as this type of prject goes. As with all projsects it just depends how far you take it. When I did mine I put disc all around which was about $600 and then also used H1 wheels. I would say it was all done for under $1500. With that being said I did not regear, yet, and I also did not put in new bearings and such.

Wow less than I thought for axles and 4 wheel disc set-up how hard was it to find everything where did you get the H1 wheels thanks Preston

It depends on weather you want to go full width or not. If not, a set of FSJ Grand waggy D44 will do nicely, but the front is a low pinion. Iwheel with a bunch of guys with full widths and that is why I am swaping to full widths myself. You would not believe how much more stable it makes the jeep.

Full width is just anything out of a full size truck. Very common.

It does ,but you can shave some of it off to get a smoother bottom. You definately want to do a rear disc conversion on a 1 ton axle. I got my caliper brackets from Ballisticfabrication.com for like $35, then just get some calipers and rotors from the front of a 1980 chevy 3/4 or 1 ton 4x4. Much lighter and much better stopping power.

Thanks andy I still think I'm going to stick to the dana 44 or 60 or maybe the 9" I'm just a big chicken when it comes to that much fab and cut type of work

My wheels came from a hummer ebay store. I will have to look up the name. The brakes came from Hard On Off Road also an ebay store. They came with all the hoses, brackets, calipers and pads. It was $300 per axle. I did the front so that I could run a 15" wheel if need be but the H1's not recentered also rubbed the stock Ford brakes. My wheels are still as they were on the hummer most have them recentered and widened.
