I may need advice on how to reconnect the power and engine wires from a 1978 engine harness to a 1980 dash wiring. I plan to use the 1980 dash with it's wireing and fuse block. The wires are cut between the fuse connection on the firewall and the engine wires. So I have 1980 wires going into the engine and need to properly connect them. The colors are different. My fear is that I will put this back together and not be able to start it or set it on fire.

This sounds like it could be a long drawn out affair. My best advise is to trace out and do one wire at a time. Personally I would just do bare minimum to get it to start and then hook up (AND TEST) everything else one thing at a time.
Good Luck

That poor, poor Jeep :( Is the Sammy trail worthy? I think the CJ project may take a while :)

Thanks, Vern. I'm in no hurry and I can keep the garage warm enuff to work in. It's gonna be a long winter so I will have plenty of time.

Sammy is ready and will be going to Interlake saturday with at least two other jeeps (Lord willing and the creeks don't freeze).

Judging from your schedule you won't be out for a long time. You better get out there while you can before Obama closes off all the public trails.

I would go to autozone.com and get the wiring diagrams (free) for the 80 and for the 78 and trace the colors on paper before I stood on my head to do the wiring.

While sitting in my nice warm house I would draw up a splicing diagram (you know, tan to blue, white w/ tr to brown ETC) and then go out and trace the circuits.

How did that go?

Right now I'm sort of dealing with a wiring mess (front park/turn lights won't flash :) ) as well as Various little glitches including my new oil pressure sensors smaller brighter bulb...

I think I have officially surrendered to the recommend vlemasters gave you... One wire at a time. I'll earn my money on this one fer sher. :o
