Does anyone know a lot about Ipods / Itunes? Our computer got a virus and we had to wipe it out. All of our Itunes music is on two DVDs. I downloaded Itunes to our computer but I'm having trouble getting our music back on. It didn't automatically load when I put the DVD in. I have plugged my Ipod into the computer and all of the music on the Ipod shows up in Itunes, but I can't figure out how to get music from the Ipod to Itunes or from the DVD to Itunes. Anyone got any suggestions?

Julie...Laurie knows all about Ipods and Itunes...she will be on here later and I am sure she can help you out.

with your ipod plugged in, and it up in I-tunes, look for "transfer purchases"
its in the File menu at the top. you may have to "authorize computer" first though. that's in the Store menu at the top.
if the DVD doesn't autoplay, you should be able to open it, and then drag the music files from the DVD and drop them into the Itunes library.

Ok, I transferred the purchases, but most of the music on my Ipod was not purchased, so it only loaded 61 of 2000!
I did drop the music into the Itunes library, but I the only way I can get it to put the music in the Itunes library is to individually add each file, which is doable but will take a while!

ok, do this.
do you have an icon in "my computer" for your IPOD?
if so, do this.
double click on it, it'll open a window with a few things in it. soemthing like contacts, calender, etc. look for one that says "ipod control" if you don't see it, goto the TOOLS menu at the top, and click folder options, click the VIEW tab and in there select "view all hidden files" then you should see the folder labeled "ipod control"
open that folder, and in there you'll see a folder called MUSIC. all of your music is organized in that folder. there are probably 40 or more folders labeled F00, F01, etc. you should be able to open each of those folders and drag the songs into the ITUNES library.
actually, once you "view hidden files" you can probably go right into ITUNES and select "add folder to library" under the file menu, and select that MUSIC folder on the ipod, and it might add all the songs in that way.
hope that helps.

Ok, that is working. It wouldn't let me add the MUSIC folder, but I can drag the songs into the library like you said. There are 49 folders so it will take a little while, but not as long as the other way I was going to have to do it!
Thanks!!!

You should have been able to transfer the music from the DVD to your computer's hard drive. Then add whatever folder you put them in, to your iTunes...
When you get the stuff off your iPod (like an external hard drive) they will be coded and there may be a few songs with names like "XYKY" or some other strange 4 letter combo. All you have to then is edit the name of the song which might be a pain...

Well I got all of the music transferred over. I do have some of those weird song names like you mentioned. Unfortunately our sound card didn't reload properly so I can't listen to anything to see what the song name should be!
