ok as some of you know I have a 93 Jeep XJ and I am having problems with my Trans. It is an AX 15 with a 231 t case. I have replaced the clutch (w/ a hydrolic throw-out-berring) and after reinstalling the trans and having a Good solid throw on the clutch petal. I can still shift the trans through all 5 gears without use of the clutch and I get no noise or movment. I removed the trans again and the only thing I can see from the outside is a lot of up down and side to side movment in the Input shaft. the Trans has over 200K miles on it. any help would be apreciated.

I'm not a tranny guy, but with the driveshaft disconnected, put it in gear and see if the output shaft turns, when moving the input. Sounds like the main shaft is in pieces. better yet, can you take the top cover off, and peek inside?

no top cover only the shifter plate. I think I will pull the front cover to see the input shaft. but I am not sure I will be able to get it back to gether. never taken one apart lol

I think if you remove the shifter plate you will be able to see sown into the tranny. At least thats how it was when I rebuilt my buddies.
