Does anyone know if Daimler/Chrysler lets you track a vehicle once it has a VIN?
I ordered a new Wrangler and it has a VIN assigned to it and is in my name. I'd like to get an estimate as to when it will arrive at the dealer's lot.
Thanks....Norm

Norm:
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! I also ordered my Thelma Jane, and the waiting was fun, but at the same time TORTURE.
Yes, there is a way to track your Jeep's progress, but four years ago, when I got my Jeep, it had to be done via telephone, not by Internet. Wonder if they have changed things so that you can use the Net to track your Jeep?
Norm, your dealer ought to be able to give you a customer service number to call, so that you can check things. The first thing you want to know is when is the "build date?" You can still check status every couple days leading up to Build Date, but it REALLY gets interesting just before build date and just after.
The dealer placed my order, and I got my Jeep three weeks and two days later! Things were slow then, and they even took a down week after my order went in. I COULD have had my Jeep in two weeks and two days, if they had not gone down for a week!
I am in KY, and they did not use Railroad shipment, so I'm sure that helped speed up delivery. Since you are in Joliet, maybe they won't rail ship your Jeep either.
I would give you that number, but it has been over four years since I used it, and I don't have it written down anywhere. Your dealer can help you.
Let's hear some details! Talk dirty to us! Tell us all about that new Jeep, OK? Model, top option, color, tranny, all the goodies. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif

P.S.
You can track the rail shipment, if it DOES go by rail, but you would be much better off if it didn't.

I'm sorry for not responding sooner. I thought I subscribed to the thread when I started it. Since I didn't see anything in my e-mail account, I figured nobody had replied.
I ordered a Khaki Unlimited with the dual-top option. All the rest is pretty much like you would find at a dealer...Automatic, security group, 7-speaker, leather wheel, etc.
This will be my seventh (7th) Jeep so far. With the exception of the first one that I bought a year old (1979 CJ-7), they were all bought new off a dealers lot. That's why I didn't know about the tracking.
I'll post up an introductory note when I get it. It's "supposed" to come in this week. We'll see.
Thanks Much
Norm

Sounds like a real nice Jeep, Norm! Once again, CONGRATULATIONS!
Did you ever learn how to do your tracking? Hope the wait is short for ya.
You need to bring that new Jeep down to LBL and go wheelin' with some of us at Turkey Bay.
