I would reccomend 4.11:1 Gears if you don't already have them. If you still have the dana 30 I wouldn't spend the money on mods to it unless you are considering converting to a full floater.

Ryan:

You said you don't do a lot of hardcore offroading, so I think you could spend your money for something else rather than an axle upgrade. You didn't say that you are locked in the rear, so I assume you are not.

I have wheeled with probably hundreds of different Jeeps, and most of them have had the Dana 35 rear axle. I have only seen one axle shaft snap on a Dana 35, and that was on a Jeep that was running locked with 35" tires. The right rear tire dropped into a hole and got in a bind that kept it from turning. The torque snapped the axle shaft, but in that particular situation, who knows if a Dana 44 would have held up???

Would I recommend the Dana 44 to anyone buying a new Jeep? You betcha. I am glad that I have a Dana 44, but the 35 is not as fragile as lots of people think it is.
