After totally hijacking Dave's thread on Impact Orange, I decided to mend my ways and start a fresh one.

Following the patient counsel of Jeff, Don, and Marlon, I followed through and ordered an Unlimited Rubicon this morning. The dealer was not aware of Rubicons being on hold, but the web page at www.arifleet.com/production.html (http://www.arifleet.com/production.html) says that they are. The complete Wrangler status, as of Feb 11, is:

(RBQ) AM/FM/CD/6-disc changer on hold - TBD
(RSB) Sirius Satellite Radio on hold – TBD
(BGK) Antilock brakes Job #1 is 3/2/05 (RHD)
(PYH) Solar Yellow paint Job #1 is 5/2/05
TJJS*** Rubicon is on hold – TBD

So, although the dealer still quotes delivery time as 6-8 weeks, the real delivery time is--TBD.

Thanks for the enthusiasm, Jeff. With a long and uncertain wait ahead, I'm trying to remain cool about it if I can. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

To answer your questions: I ordered <font color="red"> red </font> and I got both tops. I was going to get the hard top and just leave the top off during the summer, but I decided that I liked the flexibility of having a soft top too. If I take a trip in the warm months, say to a Jeep Jamboree or something, I can freeway-travel with the soft top on and drop it at the destination. Buying the soft top as part of the dual-top looks like $600 less than buying it separately later.

I also went for the two luxury items--the leather wheel/cruise-control and the security group.

GREAT new Dennis. If you are like me, I don't get a new vehicle very often (I kept one car 16 years, and another for 12 years), getting second best just doesn't work. 10 minutes after you receive your Rubi, you will have forgotten about the wait and will be soooo happy that you got the Rubi. Keep us posted and besure to post pics!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And thank you, too, Tom!

I forgot to mention that it was a manual. If my priority were tackling the toughest obstacles, I would have bought the automatic. But my priority is just having fun playing in my Jeep, and the six-speed seems ideal for that. It gives me more ways to screw up! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And thank you too Don! Wow, this is a fast kind of place. Every time I type a reply somebody else has posted!

Also--the Jeep will be replacing my Miata, also a red convertible, which I have owned over 14 years.

Replacing a Miata, lol big move up, sitting up high is good...The jeep inline 6 is a real workhorse and reliable engine. A good friend of mine has an inline 6 in her GC which has 160K with no major problems....and im at 93K on my GC I6 and only had to get the fuel pump changed at 54K....running strong!!!

I must say the wrangler is the most fun vehicle ive ever owned or driven and im one of those people that trades 1-2 years and have owned lots of vehicles.....

The Security Group is hardly a luxury feature. It's a wonderful feature.... wanna steal your new Rub. Unltd? Gotta call a tow truck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Because if they don't have the key, they can forget driving away with it.

Congrats! I hate my leather steering wheel... feels so cheap and dry. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/td.gif

Marlon,

I do not care for the leather steering wheel its too smooth/slipery.....

I do like the compass/temp/lights in rear view mirror, 7 speaker sound system, easy tilt seats.

Oh i used the sunrider feature yesterday on the drive home from work. It easy to use, however, on the highway it formed a vacum inside the jeep. I could not tell it myself until i looked in my sideview mirror and observed my soft top sucked inward hard like /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif, it looked funny, i was just worried it may scratch the windows but no damage /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif......

The leather steering wheel option does indeed have leather, but the real reason to buy it is that is how you get cruise control. The wheel and controls are exactly the same as in my WJ, so I know what I'm getting.

The security group includes the sentry key, which is nice, but I have to admit what sold me is the outside temperature indicator. I'm an data geek and the more guages the better.

For people like me (data geeks), one side effect of ordering a new car is you become an infallible expert on the current company offerings. Go ahead, ask me anything!
