I headed down to Dallas this weekend to be with my cuz....Gus. He was diagnosed 2 weeks ago the the same cancer I had (Hodgkins Lymphoma 2001). He wanted me to be there for him so he could lean on me a bit and just ask questions, etc. I was happy to be with him this weekend and he is feeling some pretty bad side effects from the chemo. I sat next to him as he took in the chemo (5 and a half hours). It brought up some painful memories....I could even taste the chemo myself. I had to leave for a bit to get something to eat so i could get the taste out of my mouth. He is 33 years old with wife and 2 kids 7 and 10. Keep Gus and his family in our prayers.
Oh yea, we had a head-shaving party. Pics below.
Hannah (7 yrs) got the job of shaving my head, she said she was going to be a hair do'er when she got older.

Donnie, incredibly cool thing to do. My mom has fought breast cancer, and one of the things she got upset about is that feeling of isolation, despite knowing many others have gone through it. Your standing by your cousin and being there for him is probably as strong a medicine as the chemo itself.

Yea, thanks guys. But it was the LEAST i could do. See I had so many people reach out to me, 7 years ago, and POUR into my life that It is my DUTY to give back for as long as the GOOD LORD will have me on this earth.
He has had a BAD few days but seems to be on his way back to 100%, or at least close to it. Then is time for round 2 of 12. It's gonna be a battle, but he has a HUGE support group (Faith, family, church, etc) so he will do fine.
Here is his latest update!!! I'll keep ya'll posted
Donnie
PS If anyone would like to drop him a line...I know he would be truly blessed

For those who have tried to call me over the last few days and gotten my voice mail, I apologize but I was probably asleep.
Sunday night I was hit with an urge to sleep and now 2 1/2 days later, I'm waking up :)
I was also plagued with a sensitivity in my mouth that's prevented me from eating anything other than room temperature soup, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. I think it's starting to fade and my mouth is watering at the possibility of eating a cheeseburger tonight!
I pray that tomorrow is NORMAL. Not great or exceptional, just normal :)
Thanks again for all of the positive and uplifting messages
GUS
