Well I went and got a fan today and threw it at the General (Thats it's name). I let it run for about 30 minutes and no overheating problems. I guess the trails will be the real test. Oh yeah and I went and got a 2ft antenna also so I just need to find someone with the swr meter and I will be all set. I mounted it to the windshield light bracket. I like it there cause now it has an antenna on each side.

Did you put a thermostat on your fan, or does it run all the time? I've got mine wired up so that it can run automatically, on all the time or off all the time(water crossings). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/woot.gif I even put in indicator lights to tell me which mode it's in.

How hard is it to swap out the engine-powered fan for an electric? Is it a good mod for the 2.5's? Will I get much out of it?

I spent about 4 hours on mine. But that includes fabbing some mounting brackets and coming up with a wiring plan. Actual install took less than an hour. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tu.gif

yeah mine took less thana an hour to do also. I just wired it to a switch and turn it on when the engine warms up. I did have to cut the shroud apart so the power steerining res. and radiator overflow could still go there.

Why are you guys doing this? For power, or is there some other functionality to the electric fan? I'd like to know.. cuz I already have one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well power is one concern in the 4 banger there is also water fording and gas mileage. While poer and mileage are VERY minimal I need all I can get on the highway.

Alright.. thanks, but could you elaborate on the water fording part? I would think that an engine fan would be more reliable in water?

Yuo dont really want a fan to be spinning when you enter the water. The engine fan is always spinning and could break upon entry into the water. With the elelctric fan you can turn it off before going into the water. Also it alows the jeep to heat up faster on cold mornings because I dont turn it on until the motor is at operating temp.

A electric fan is going to be one of the next things I do. I know I have tore up all kinds of crap with that fan running underwater. Where did you get yours from Micah?
