I am looking for a newer tow rig. My 85 1 ton chevy serves it's purpose but I want a 4wd extended cab. I found a 95 or 96 F-250 supercab longbed on a car lot. It's a 5.8 (351), 5 speed, vinyl floor, tow package, good condition, very clean, with 150k miles. Anybody know much about these? I will only drive it to haul my Jeep or in bad weather. Is it good on power, mileage, etc? I don't want to hear opinions on chevy, ford, dodge, etc. I am not partial to any brand. I just like that body style Ford a lot. Thanks, Matt

Power shouldn't be a problem,mpg wouldn't be good but 5-speed should help a little.

Like "bushy" said....you won't win any races with it, but it will pull a small house. And expect around 10, maybe 12 mpg, whether you're empty or loaded.

10-12!!! I was hoping for more. My current rig gets 8-9 loaded and a little more unloaded. It runs 3100 rpm at 65mph. I was hoping for 14 or so unloaded. Oh well. I am going to call about it tomorrow to get a price.

Just remember, while the 351 Windsor is not a small engine by todays standards, it is on the small end for a work truck. I'm not saying it doesn't have the torque needed to get the job done, it does. That truck will have a fairly short rearend ratio, just like your current truck.

I bought a 94 F-250 today. Supercab, longbed, 351 (5.8), manual 5 speed, 4x4, 1 owner, excellent condition, 142k. Now if I could just sell my old flatbed I'd be good. Oh, by the way, wife's not happy. She said I should involve her in these decisions. Seems easier to get forgiveness than permission though. Anybody got a spare doghouse????!!!!!!! LOL
